zealotta Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Hi Guys!Iam a 57 year old german that started building models when i was 15 thanks to a couple of american soldiers stationed here in Germany in my homecity that where friends of my parents!i started building everything, but at first i was building mostly tanks in 1/72 scale!around 18 i got the Muscle Car Fever and was building many Amt kits under the MAtchbox label! Then i went to 1/35 scale and did this for a long time.I threw away my old Car and Truck kits (which i could kill myself for today)and gave all my other models to my cousins! Some 15 years ago the Car Kit virus struck me again with the Italerie Caddillac Town Car which i wanted to chop and Hot rod!Since then my Car Kit stash accumulated a whopping close to 400 Kits of all brands in 1/24/25 of mostly American Automobiles!I even could lay my hands on some old and (especially here in Europe)rare Johan,MPC and Monogram Kits!My problem is that i have so many ideas for too many kits that i rarely complete my Kits!I have at least 50 Kits in various states of modification and customization or detailing! My problem is that i am not able to build a Kit OOB!As soon i open the box,or even before i buy a kit my brain starts modifying them!So in these 15 years i was only able to complete 5 kits(shame on me)But there are too many kits out there who want to be modified! So i cant help myself!
misterNNL Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 (edited) You might as well embrace the addition as it lasts a lifetime. There is no known cure. Many builders enjoy different parts of our hobby such as the initial body changes, but not the finish work like sanding and paint. Once they pass their favorite part out comes the box and away goes the project into storage for who knows how long. Edited March 3, 2021 by misterNNL Forgotten details
Belugawrx Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Hi my name is Bruce... and I am an Addict... Welcome aboard (off) the wagon again Gabriel? Cheers
Chariots of Fire Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Welcome, Gabriel! Nice to have you aboard. There is no cure for model building but there may be for getting one finished! Take the time to think of all of the great things you can do by building one section of the model at a time. Make the time count. They when all of the sub assemblies are done put them all together. ??
Kromolly Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Welcome Gabriel! Your story sounds familiar. I just told my wife the other day that, if I would just follow the instructions and build out of the box, I would actually finish the half-dozen+ projects surrounding my workbench. She said "Well, that wouldn't be any fun for you, would it?" ?
AmericanMuscleFan Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 Welcome to the forum Gabriel! Model cars are like a disease and I would be curious how many kits are collected by all enthusiasts all over the world? It's impressive to see the price that some of these old kits have achieved over the years, a good investment despite not being the goal, at least for me! Go at your own pace, it's not a race, the goal is to have a good time and relax, everyday life takes care of bringing us back to earth!!! ?
