absmiami Posted Friday at 07:26 PM Author Posted Friday at 07:26 PM Removed some of the color coat - and sprayed on some Tam Ferrari pink primer …
absmiami Posted Friday at 07:29 PM Author Posted Friday at 07:29 PM Adding some more flattening agent as i go - this is close - but think ill add another color coat w some more flattening additive - i want sheen instead of shine - hate painting leather - makes my head hurt -
absmiami Posted Friday at 07:31 PM Author Posted Friday at 07:31 PM When I wander back to my Lotus 16 build ill have the same challenge on the dr seat -

I caught a flurry in Calgary spending time w relations in early October - No, still on the ground, good news for the northern model car builders! 😁 Playing with paint is what I like the least, I think you're doing rather well, my dear!
Pierre Rivard Posted Saturday at 02:35 PM Posted Saturday at 02:35 PM Amazing seats, but yeah, I agree, too much gloss. May I suggest a wash (dark brown or oiled earth) to bring up some contrast, then a flat varnish, then after it's cured rubbing it off with a cloth?
absmiami Posted Monday at 04:54 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:54 AM Pierre - what is your go-to fl varnish ? Does Vallejo have it in their line ? How bout a coat of 50/50 tamiya fl clear and semi gloss clear ?
absmiami Posted Monday at 05:01 AM Author Posted Monday at 05:01 AM The kit had several photo-etched frets - including a pedal assembly - i’ll use the pedals - with some mods - 1
absmiami Posted Monday at 05:07 AM Author Posted Monday at 05:07 AM Battery courtesy of Mr William Cunningham - his 3D design fr his world class birdcage project - 1
absmiami Posted Monday at 05:15 AM Author Posted Monday at 05:15 AM Fitting the dash - figured out that if removed a small section of the L strip on both sides of the body i can attach the dash and frame to the chassis -before attaching the body - so i’ll be able to make the sub frame that is visible in the driving compartment 2
absmiami Posted Monday at 05:19 AM Author Posted Monday at 05:19 AM Now time to glue the rear bulkhead and frame to the rest of the chassis - with some brackets and some mods to the bulkhead - the completed chassis - someday - will slip into the completed and painted body - i hope - 2

How bout a coat of 50/50 tamiya fl clear and semi gloss clear ? I use Vallejo varnishes, sold in small 0.6oz dispensers and easy to brush on. You can use the 70.520 matt or 70.522 satin. If you are interested in washes, my go to is Vallejo Oiled Earth 76.521 (1.18 oz). All these products are water-based and very easy to use.
absmiami Posted Monday at 04:12 PM Author Posted Monday at 04:12 PM Gracias - for those of you new to the forum - Pierre brush paints - everything - so he is the paint finish oracle -
Pierre Rivard Posted Monday at 05:08 PM Posted Monday at 05:08 PM Andrew, I hope you will be ok with me posting a picture on your thread to help explain these finishes. On this Alpha 8C I wanted a weathered race look. The seat has received the oiled earth wash and then a satin varnish. The black tarp has a satin finish and the body was also weathered with a wash, mattress varnish and dry pigments in specific areas. 1
absmiami Posted Monday at 07:45 PM Author Posted Monday at 07:45 PM any time Pierre ! my Maser seats will have a fresh fr the factory look - but your great brown leather seats will be an interesting contrast your Alfa has just finished racing 24 hrs - over 750 miles - on the pre-war French Lemans course - and you nailed it ...
MarkJ Posted Monday at 08:27 PM Posted Monday at 08:27 PM Pierre, I still can't get over how wonderfully that whole build came out but that seat was one for the ages. It looks like you took a real leather seat and miniaturized it to 1/24 scale. Simply amazing.
absmiami Posted Tuesday at 06:49 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 06:49 PM (edited) Some mock ups to see what fits where - wheelbase still checks out - can now measure and file the rear axle to correct length - this is too wide - but i thought that i’d have to make a few changes - Edited Tuesday at 08:36 PM by absmiami 1
absmiami Posted Tuesday at 06:52 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 06:52 PM Ride height not yet correct - but i’m getting there - pondering how to secure the rear axle - think i mite want to add something to the springs and trailing arms to secure it - 1
absmiami Posted yesterday at 05:06 AM Author Posted yesterday at 05:06 AM The kit had a curbside style casting combining the sump and the base of the transmission - i sawed off the “tranny” - added some Evergreen strip - and then made some U joints - again fr Evergreen strip and rod - 1
absmiami Posted yesterday at 05:09 AM Author Posted yesterday at 05:09 AM The assembly just squeezes into the transmission tunnel - barely - ill have to remember to install this before the engine block and crank case - or else I’ll be sorry - 2
Moparman18064 Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago That sure is a tight fit, Andrew! Nice u joint, you make it look easy!
absmiami Posted 15 hours ago Author Posted 15 hours ago Believe it or not M Man - Maserati sent two oil lines from the oil tank behind the fuel tank through the trans tunnel and forward to an oil pump located at the fr of the engine - they were routed not more than an inch or two from the dr shaft - no idea whether i can pull that off in scale - and was this really a good idea ?

Wonder what the mechanics servicing the cars said... probably aloud... and most likely sailors around would have blushed.
