TransAmMike Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 I posted in the "Wanted" section that I was looking for any source for aftermarket mufflers like flowmasters pictured (or at least similar), and not much luck except for outragously priced flowmasters on Shapeways. As "89AKurt" suggested, just make them. So, I'm now reaching out for suggestions on what to use and how. I have an idea (just popped into my head as I was typing this) but I'd like to see what you super creative guys have to suggest.
Jon Haigwood Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 I got a bit creative and made my own out of aluminum tubing and sheet styrene for the flat ends. Started with a larger piece of of round and flattened it until I got the right shape then added the end plates and inlet/outlet pipes
NOBLNG Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Make a blank out of sheet or rectangle evergreen and file it to shape. Alternately you could glue some half- round to some rectangle to get an oblong shape...add end plates if you like. Then drill the ends and add your tubing sleeve or exhaust pipes.

Yep, your solution is what came to mind to me. I was thinking gluing 3 round Evergreen or tubing side by side, then wrap it with sheet styrene. Could leave the 2 outside pieces a little longer for the inlet and outlet. Gonna give it a try. Cap off the ends with sheet.
Mark Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 If you are making one, two, or three standard size mufflers and intend to use them in multiple projects, casting them should be considered also. Make one of each, make it as perfect as you can, then make castings of them as needed.

Mark Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 It's worth learning, especially if you have several unique or hard to find items that you would like to have multiple copies of. Just a thought.
TransAmMike Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 I couldn't wait to try to make one, used 3 small pieces of evergreen rod, layed flat and glues together with liquid cement. Then cut same length thin sheet long enough to wrap around it. Glued rectangle piece of same thin sheet on each end then trimmed them with sharp scissors. Smoothed the ends to the oval contour and here is what it looks like. It's just shy of 1 inch long x 1/4 wide x 1/8 thick.
