youpey Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) Im working on the 1965 Corvette from monogram. its an old kit but so far its been going ok. I had some minor fit issues with the front but otherwise its been ok. I have carpet material arriving tomorrow to flock the back area. I messed up the passenger side silver area. The tamiya paint melted the blue paint causing clumps. I didn't really want to start over so i cleaned it the best i could. It doesn't look horrible. I dont have the body painted yet, but i have it ready for primer. I just haven't had a chance yet. I need to still do the exhaust manifold and pipes. For the rims i left them chrome but did a very thin layer of tamiya smoke. I intentionally made the carpet area a different shade of blue to represent that its a different material. however its too different, but the flocking material will cover it I have the amt 63 Corvette started, and i have slowly been working on it too. I like the amt kit more, once i cleaned up the pieces. It was flash like crazy Edited May 6, 2021 by youpey
robertw Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Have fun with it. I have the later version with the 396 hood on my bench at this time, It was a previously built kit now needing a rebuild. I wish it had a little better engine compartment detail but other then that not a bad kit. If you're also have a '63 in the wings you must like the C2. I hope you have the late 90's 1/25 scale Revel/Monogram '67 that came out as both a coupe and convertible. That is a kit that just begs to be built well and will provide you with a model that will be destined for the front row of your display shelf.

Unfortunately i haven't been able to find the coupe version in a price range i can pay. i been looking and there was one but i got destracted and the auction ended before I could bid. i went nuts recently and bought the amt 3 pack with the 63 convertible, 57 vette and 53 vette. i also got the revell/monogram 3 pack with the 60 vette, 65 coupe (almost the same as this one) and a 69 vette. i also got a 69 vette in a package alone, molded in orange, and the amt 63 coupe. i also have a 63 1/16 mpc on the way. (it was my birthday last week, so i got these as gifts to myself with my birthday loot. Edited May 7, 2021 by youpey
oldscool Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 You will really like the 1/16 MPC kit. I built one when I was a teenager and it is an excellent kit. The only downside I recall was warped tires.
youpey Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) After hitting a wall on the build because of order issues i moved forward with the paint. It needs a polish for sure but overall looks pretty good i think. The color is tamiya light blue pearl. There was minor damage to the hood when i got the kit. I thought I had fixed it sll but there is a really tiny spot still. Not big enough to worry about and i can only see it on certain angles. Edited May 18, 2021 by youpey
youpey Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) The body has been polished and looks quite a bit better. Got the chrome painted in the glass edges. I also have the glass gued in place. I think at tgis point i just need to put it all together and put the body pieces on. I dont have any decals, so its going to be a badgeless car, i suppose. Realistically I can finish it tomorrow i think. My one issue is the body is light blue but the glass it comes with is really dark tinted. i probably should have made it black or maybe white i have 2 more of this exact kit in the stash. However, i think it would be a while before i build one of these again. I have an amt 63 here, i have the revell 67 in the mail, plus a bunch of other vettes here that i will do first This wasn't a bad kit, just very basic Edited May 19, 2021 by youpey
youpey Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 Im done as much as im going to do on this. I think it came out pretty good. I had one mistake which required a quick touch spay, which almost always fails, but this time it worked out. I will need to polish the spot so it shines the same but really unless you know its there, you wouldn't see it at all. I had seen someone recommed loctite to glue on the mirror. it didn't work and unfortunately discolored the clear. Its what i had to fix. I went back to mid podge to glue the mirror on. Anyway im pretty happy with the results. i will always find faylt in my builds but other than not having any decals, im ok with this one. Big thanks to snake for the wipers. they look great Thanks for looking
bisc63 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Man, that was a great color choice; your 'vette is sharp!
Zippi Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Nice. That blue looks killer on that year. Did you use bmf on the trim?

youpey Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) Here is one more under the lamp, but apparently its really out of focus. Edited May 19, 2021 by youpey
youpey Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Here is one more under the lamp. I really like it. Honestly, when i was finishing up i was reasdy to get on to the amt 63 vette. When i look at it under the lamp and see the color and the way it reflects. I really like it more. I bought decal paper, so i might try to primt up some logos to make it better
