This is my first completed model, I built it in the fall of last year. I built it loosely based off of my 1:1, an ‘80 F-150 Ranger. In hindsight, I understand pretty clearly now why many people don’t like these old 1/24 monogram pickups. After owning and studying a real one for almost 5 years, the inaccuracies with the kit had me shaking my head. Regardless, it was a fun build, and what better of a kit to practice on? I think I’ll make another attempt of replicating my 1:1 later on by kitbashing an AMT long bed 1992 F-150, and an ‘80-81 MPC Bronco.

Have you considered the monogram f250 and the older monogram cab?

I have considered that as a starting point, but I think I’ll start with an AMT ‘92 F-150 kit that I already have, and I’ll keep an eye out for an MPC Bronco. Kitbashing those two would achieve my desired effect, and it’ll be 1:25. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky and Moebius will announce a series of 1980-1996 Ford truck kits as well.

Build looks nice! The one inaccuracy that annoys me is the engine bay, since they somehow gave it the engine bay from the previous generation F-series/Bronco, even though this would have been a newly tooled kit in the 80's.

Thank you. Yup, those panels that slope downwards from the cowl to the core support were a hallmark of the older clamshell hood trucks. It looks way out of place on an ‘80-86. Being my first kit and having owned the real truck for some time, it definitely left me scratching my head, lol.

Another thing that annoys me is that these old monogram 1/24 trucks don’t have accurate floor pans for the cabs, just the bottom of the interior tub. They got the interior itself more or less accurate though.

Great job on the Ford pickup.  I like the two tone paint.

Thank you. It was sure tedious, but worth the effort.

Looks good.   As you said, it's a shame it is not accurate under the skin.  My real 81 doesn't have a serpentine belt either.  I'm thinking this may be a glued hood build.    Maybe photo reduce my mismatched dash panels (black weave around the instruments, wood grain at radio).  Plus I need AC vents.   Lots to think about doing.
