hct728(Bob) Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Neat job on the windshield, the glass should fit right in! The dimples in the bodywork look like they're stamped right in the metal, as they should, great job! Coming along nicely, soon it'll be time for paint
hct728(Bob) Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Sorry computer glitch Edited December 1, 2021 by hct728(Bob)
hct728(Bob) Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Sorry again, another duplicate post that I can't delete, but while I'm here, is there not a way to roll an edge in thin metal creating a tube that a wire could be fed into for a hinge? I’ll should visit the Tips forum for hinge ideas… Edited December 1, 2021 by hct728(Bob)
Chariots of Fire Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Glass will fit into the back side of the windshield frame. The 1/16 angle forms a perfect area for it to fit in. A way to go before paint though. I was able to scrounge just enough of two small piano hinge leftovers to make up one for the hood top. Got those soldered in place. Hood sides will be done with single small "H" hinges.

Chariots of Fire Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 Here are a couple of pix showing the completed hood pieces. The "louvers" on the side are 0.030 quarter round Evergreen. The small latches in the corners are just pieces of 1/64x1/32 strip stock bent and then soldered in place on the back side. Had a chance to position the headlights. I think next up is to do the front bumper and winch. 1
hct728(Bob) Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Looks great in shiny brass! The hinges worked out fine, an operating hood is a great feature and so neatly done at that!
Chariots of Fire Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 The rig is out of the paint shop for the most part. Still some things to get done but they are small. Plenty of detailing left to do.
NOBLNG Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 That is looking fantastic Charles. Great work on that hood…and everything else!?
Chariots of Fire Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 Started work on the canvas top today. I'm using 3 ply facial tissue with one of the ply's removed. It was then painted with a mixture of warm water and white glue. I'll let this set until it is dry and then give it one more coat. Then I can trim the tissue and paint it inside and outside.
Chariots of Fire Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 The water/glue mix dried quite quickly so I gave the canvas a rough trim and painted the inside and outside with the same OD as the truck. I'll roll up the sides to show the seats better before it's done.
GLMFAA1 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Charlie: Do you need a load for that rig? I've got some 500lb bombs from the AIrfix P51 Mustang kit.? greg
Chariots of Fire Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 HAH! This is going to be towing a fire pump trailer. Don't think bombs and fire scenes would go good together!?
hct728(Bob) Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Wow, looks great in green! Ironic, the replication a soft skin unit with a hard shell, LOL! Neat how well a simple idea like the tissue tarp can appear so realistic with some tweaking, even better if you can roll up the sides, yet another superlative detail, it just gets better and better
Chariots of Fire Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Here's what it looks like with the sides rolled up. Two more canvases to make!
hct728(Bob) Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Wow, those tiny straps look so realistic! A neat finishing touch, and still more to come? Can't wait!

Maybe time to re-do mine, made from strips of masking tape. New straps with buckles and maybe even mounting tabs. Seeing your work makes me want to 'up my game!'
Chariots of Fire Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 The buckles are just U-shaped pieces of wire. The ends of them tuck down into the roll so you can't see the ends. Then I took a fine black pen and painted some dots on the strips of paper to look like the punched-out holes in a belt. A separate piece of paper was laid on top of the original to represent the part that goes through the buckle. Then the U-shaped wire was added.
gotnitro? Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Fantastic work, love the tissue idea . I've used airplane tissue before for rolled tarps on armor, but never the results you have
Chariots of Fire Posted December 16, 2021 Author Posted December 16, 2021 Got some more work done in the last couple of days. Tow hooks added to the front bumper, spare tire bracket made up and installed. Headlights glued into the buckets and a tarp was made between windshield and the body. I temporarily tacked the tarp at the ends so I can remove the windshield and cab for interior work. Did up the seats as well.
hct728(Bob) Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Wow, it looks so realistic! That spare tire mount is made like a watch mechanism, wouldn't surprise me if the wheel bolts on too. Love the look of those straps and buckles, still need to get back to the bench to try out the method
Chariots of Fire Posted December 16, 2021 Author Posted December 16, 2021 The spare tire mounts on the bracket and then the small disk and threaded nut are put in place to hold it. Same as the real one.
GLMFAA1 Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 With a stroll thru the internet it looks like there is a rod or bar inside the cab roof along the edge from the windshield to the roof. Even one picture where the cab roof is rolled up against the back roof edge. Just suggestions as always your models are works of art (quit copying his work?) greg
Chariots of Fire Posted December 17, 2021 Author Posted December 17, 2021 Thanks, Greg. I'll take a second look!?
