"Vantom" Ford van

"Restarted" this one for the "Replica Build off" but I thought I'd post it up here too for those who don't look in that section.

I actually painted this several years ago when the kit was reissued but was never really happy with the paint back then.

Decided to take another crack at it last week while going through my stash looking for something else. It ties in well with a build I'm in on the forum.

It's going to be a close copy of the one I built back around '80/'82. Only difference will be the wheels. The original build used the chrome wheels from the AMT '79 Bronco. I don't have any now so I'm subbing in a set of the custom wheels from the AMT '69 Torino/Cobra as they're about the same design.

Basic black clear coated after the decals were applied and polished out. I'll be lowered a couple scale inches and I'm using the same 2-piece tires as in the original issue. The red on the wheels in the pic is the reflection of my shirt.

Interior will be dark red same as the original but I'm going to skip the velour material I used on the seats and door panels this time.

I must say though, I haven't cleaned up so many ejector pin marks on a kit in a long time.

Very cool, Steve!  I'm going to apologize to you now because I am going to start a build thread of this one too.  Mine is the Phantom.  I'm building it for a Halloween themed FB group build.  I started mine around the end of September and need to have it done by October 31st.  I have no doubt that yours will be a whole lot nicer than mine.  I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!

Steve, I remember building this one many moons ago and I really liked it, sorry to  say I traded off this one and all my old model kits I built as a kid for R/C stuff. I did have a friend custom make those decals to fit the monster truck I built. ?

That's pretty cool Gene. Really suits the truck.

BTW, did you know the latest reissue of the AMT Wagonrod also has a set of those decals made to fit that kit?
