My first car was a 66 Impala SS 396, Rochester 4 barrel. 325HP, with a Muncie 4 speed trans. It was red with black interior and had a bench front seat. Didn't realize how rare this one was until I started looking, most of them I see on the internet have the bucket seats with console. I was 18, fresh out of high school, and man that thing was fun and fast. Racked up quite a few wins with it at the Saturday night grudge matches we had at our local drag strip.  Wish I still had it.

Nice ride. My dad has a Butternut Yellow 66 for a short time. I think it was a 327 3-on-the-tree. The starter went bad so he would make my siblings and I push him to jump start it.

The good ol' days when you could get a car just as you wanted it. I bought a 66 Impala SS from a high school buddy whose dad ordered "his way' brand new: black with white interior, 283 engine with 3-on-the-tree! Console had a brushed chrome block-off plate.

Love looking at your Impala. You mentioned finding others that had bucket seats and those would have been the Super Sport models since that was the big difference aside from some very minor trim parts. I know this as I also got a new '66 Impala Super Sport in late '65. Mine was Danube Blue, very dark Blue mt. I also had the 325/395 and 4 speed with the Posi. rear end. The car also had the in dash tach and a 4 gauge instrument pod between the console and the bottom of the dash and the F-41 sport suspension package. Great car and I loved the way it handled as I was living in the mountains in SoCal at the time. The problem for me and the reason I had to trade it off for a new '68 Bel Air was the insurance payments were more than the car payments. You should build a model of your car with the Revell '66 Impala SS kit and change the front seat to a bench. These are still some of the best looking full size Chevys in my opinion anyway.

Mine had the in dash tach, but no instrument pod. I've been thinking of getting that kit and doing a replica, but it's hard to find right now. Yes, my insurance was also expensive, but I was toughing it out working with my Father in his logging business. I actually broke my rear end drag racing, and didn't have the money to get it repaired, finally sold it.
