Looks good, you are braver than I would be to go outsid.....er paint outside in that temp... ?

Thanks Mark.  It was either take a chance or wait 4 or 5 months.  I opted to go for it and it paid off.

Excited to see this finished Bob, I’m up here trying to decide on another build lol

Thanks Bill.  I think this is going to turn out nice.  I'm curious as to how the side chrome pieces are going to fit.

As long as you kept the coats of paint to a reasonable thickness you should be good but if you have used many coats of primer like I have done on a custom job, you would need to sand those channels down to reduce the thickness of the paint. You probably already know this, Bob, but there may be others reading this who may not. I believe this is a popular kit and, well, I feel compelled to point it out. ?

I think you are correct Jim.  I guess I need to cut the chrome from the tree and see how they fit.

I built one and sprayed it from a rattle can and it all fit good. Just go easy on the CA IMG_0476.jpg.e3f4bb98024569516de0e51c718fe7ed.jpgIMG_0474.jpg.b5858df3d5bdef0f651f2ec9ecb7499b.jpg

Nice looking.  Months ago when I painted the body I didn't even think about the wheel skirts and the spare tire for the back.

I didn't like the look of the phony continental kit. If they'd provided an aftermarket full Connie kit with the extended splash pan and bumper brackets, I would have used it. The "stuck-on-the-back" look just looks bogus. Skirts are nice but the factory skirts are pretty minimal. I have a '54 in my garage (albeit in pieces) and all the skirts do is promote rust around the wheel openings. If it ever sees the road again it will be sans skirts. ? But, of course, we don't need to worry about that with styrene ?

Just to belabor the point about the trim channels, I've sprayed so much primer on this thing, I'm sanding those channels and cleaning out the panel lines after every coat now.IMG_20211013_132933.thumb.jpg.e4438829523ccd0c40083a73a461725d.jpg

Yeah I know what you mean.  Looks like I'm ok without them.

Yeah I'm going to have to check mine out.  I don't think I have much primer or paint on the body but you never know.

I pulled all the wrapping off and there was a little bleed through but it's on the trim and that will all get bmf.  I still have to polish the top but it turn out nice.  Also got my new neon Chevrolet clock in.  I use to have a Ford clock for when I had my 1:1 37 Ford pickup Street Rod.

I haven't cleaned them up yet but I did a trial fit of the side chrome pieces and they fit like a glove.

Yeah, Bob, they engineered this thing right. Frankly, I was surprised ?  and delighted ? when I reached that point. It's a pretty good kit. Very good, in fact. I'll grab 'em when I can get 'em cheap. I love the body style. Always have. I had a sister that was 5 years older and she was seeing a guy who's father ran a body shop. This kid drove a '53 or '54 hardtop that had been modified by cutting the roof off and providing a means of bolting it on. So if you wanted a convertible,  you were committed.  If it rained.....you had to get it home in a hurry.

Your paint job looks great, I'm eager to see the finished car. ?

Well....I started painting the front seats with the Anits's Pastel Mint and it's just to light for my liking. I put a coat of the Anita's Dew Green (same as body color) and it looks much better.  I thinned it about 50/50 with water.

Like the seat colors.

Thanks Dave.  It's a work in progress.  I did get the white top polished out.

I'm liking the green color the more I look at it. Didn't think that would happen, but sometimes you just have to see something to appreciate it.

Thanks Dave.  I'm glad I got that white top painted when I did.  It's 19° now and we are supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow.  I went with the seat color I chose is started to look good.  Maybe a couple more coats then a matt clear finish.

You're doing great Bob, looks like the brush painted seat came out just fine.

Thanks Mike.  Still needs a couple more coats.
