Atmobil Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 I am trying to finish the 64 C10 that I started like ten years ago. I converted it to a 4x4 and used the Model Car Garage photoetch set on it. I'm now looking at the tailgate lock/chain part. Truing to figure out what way to best use this. Anyone here have used these parts and want to share some tips and maybe pictures of how you did it?
espo Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 One good place to find chains in the scale you're looking for would be in the Jewlery isle at any craft store. I have found some great small parts for this use and others.
Casey Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Are there any p/e parts included for specific use on the two tailgate latches? Here is my suggestion for chain:
NOBLNG Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I have not used or even seen the photo etch chains, but here is what I did with chains from Michaels. They are 27 links per inch in size.

I used some of it as tailgate chains on my 78 Dodge D100 a few years ago. What I'm hoping for is to see some pitcures of how the photoetch set have been used on the model. I can probably figure it out on my own aswell. I will have to bend the long part (the two on the top right on the etch) and figure out how to attach that to the truck.
peteski Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Photoetched chains (even if etched in relief) IMO look too flat. As others have mentioned, there are many sources of real miniature chains. There are really fine scale chains used in model RR hobby. The small chains are measured in links per inch. If someone measures the size of a link on a 1:1 truck, then choosing the best scale looking chain will be a simple calculation away.

I don't think you need any help from me on this as you seem to have it figured out very well.
