The version of the 77 I have is very recent, I think just before the Popper came out. Is there a production date on the bottom of your '77 Pinto box? The white letter Rally GTs might've been a rolling change, it sounds like.

My kit doesn't have the tampo-print Rally GT tires, and the only tires in my box are the BF Goodrich tires that I think were originally tooled for the lowrider version of the '70 Monte Carlo. Also have the Coke Pinto Popper, and struck out finding these Rally GTs there too. 3 hours ago, Casey said: Is there a production date on the bottom of your '77 Pinto box? Casey Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Just like the 1:1 restorers, now we're getting into date codes. ? 2

My kit is dated 4/24/2019, and it's coded A2 which I believe indicates it is from the second production run of this kit. I'd guess the March 27, 2019 kit is from A1, so maybe only the first production run had the tampo tires.

Heck, at this point some of those Johan kits may as well bypass eBay and go directly to Sotheby's for champagne , caviar, and hobnobbing socialites !
Casey Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Some possible options, though the middle 1/25 14" Firestone and 14" right tire appear to not be radials...hard to tell on those two. The 13" Firestone Super Sports tire on the left has tread blocks which appear too heavy to my eyes. ?? I am almost certain they were included with the reissued AMT VW Scirocco kit a few years ago, though.

I think it's more the blocks which spill over onto the sidewalls which kill the look for me. The zig-zag groove is huge, too, which doesn't help things.

Unfortunately, those ugly things are still around; I happen to need a set of the hideous things. What kits were they in? Y'all could save me a bunch of hunting.

They're in MPC and AMT versions of the 88 Mustang GT, MPC Fieros, and probably MPC Camaros and Firebirds from the mid 80s as well.

Depends upon the year of issue more than the subject, as Round2 has wisely never include them in any kits, so you'd have to consider pre-2006 AMT/Ertl kits (and especially pre-'90s kits) -- '33 Willys Coupe, '53 Vette, '29 Ford Woody, '32 Ford Roadster, '32 Vicky, etc.

Casey Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Looks like the AMT Cheverra custom Camaro snap kit included the Goodyear GT Radial tires, too: https://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/3112-coming-off-the-shelf-cheverra-its-a-snap/

The original MPC tires are, IMHO, some of the worst for causing tire burn on parts (not as bad as vintage Revell tires, but close!)
