Straightliner59 Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 I bought this power eraser a while back, in my eternal quest to find an easier way to create engine-turned finishes on aluminum sheet. It doesn't really work, for that, so...Today, I needed to drill some holes in the surface of the wing for my Supermodified. I saw the eraser, and thought about how I could make a high speed bit fit in the eraser. Three layers of heat-shrink tubing later, I had my holes! It's high speed, and low torque, which is ideal for this application. The low torque doesn't snap the bit, if it binds. I decided to keep these all together, 'cause this is now a "thing"! 1
Doug 1061 Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 That's pretty cool. The best tools are the ones you make.
PHPaul Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 I took a slightly different approach to the same problem. A power supply out of an old desktop computer, a DC motor with chuck and a variable speed control from Amazon. About $20 tied up in the whole (hole?) thing.
deuces wild Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 How about hooking the motor up to a light dimmer switch?????....

iBorg Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Sorry the eraser didn't work for the engine turned panels. I am glad you found a use for it. The idea of not enough torque to break bits is a huge plus. The wing looks killer!

They both have too much torque. This thing, if a .5 mm bit catches, the motor stops!
