From the realistic look of the bed and rear of the cab area as well as the trim you would never know how much was done on this body.

Thanks David !  I had fun building the bed from scratch but the rear window was a real pain !

That is cool ASF.  If that is not a show winner then i am not sure what is.

Not much progress this last week .  All I accomplished was painting the grille and bumpers , installed the headlights , and finished the taillights .  These days I really struggle with detail painting like this so I'm glad it's over .

Finally had some time yesterday to work on the Ranchero and get the glass installed .  Starting with the rear window I used the template I made earlier and cut a piece of clear sheet to match .

66

For the windshield I wanted to add the tint across the top so some creative masking was needed . I first fit the windshield into the body and mark where I want the lower edge of the tint , then add tape to the bottom approximately 1/8th inch below those marks (this is only used to locate the tape on the inside). On the inside I add a strip of rolled up tape across the width even with the outside tape , then add a piece of paper even with the original marks .  The paper is held off of the windshield so the tint will have a "fogged" effect across the bottom .

With Tamiya TS-72 Clear Blue I spray several light single passes allowing each pass to dry before spraying the next , the paint will run or sag very easily so these have to be very light coats . Usually 4 or 5 passes are needed for the tint to be dark enough .  After unmasking the resulting tint is shown on the right .

68

I also had to fab a rear view mirror using some plastic strip and a length of aluminum rod for the stem .

Here's the rear glass installed .

And the finished windshield installed .

Thanks again for looking !

Your windshield tinting process is fantastic.  I might have to try it.

Thanks Jim !  It took some trial and error but now it works pretty good . Last year I gathered up some old windshields and practiced on them . The curvature of the glass can be tricky and there's no redoing it , I ruined several windshields !
