Is anyone watching this on speed T.V. I never miss watching it and dreaming about having the $ to purchase a few of my favorites. But I would have to be a multi-millionare to get all of the ones I wanted. I'll just have to settle for building them 1/24-1/25 scale. If you need a little inspiration, watch a few hours of it. :)

I haven't watched it yet, been tiVoing the coverage...but I'm going Saturday.. Should be fun. I went last year, spent 7 hrs wandering around looking at all the cars.

I was watching it cause a Road Runner I once owned till July of this year was on the auction block today, Lot # 627.1

Back in July I traded the RR for a Chrysler Pacifica with 20,000 miles on it from a Chrysler dealer in Calgary....staright up exchange.

Then they sold it to DesertAutosport in Scottsdale Arizona....he had it on ebay for 2 weeks without success

then registered it in the Barrett Jackson Auction.

The car sold for only $15,500 plus the 10% commission for a total of $17,050.00

I found it realy bad cause the car was 1 of 6 Still Registered in Notrth America with the RM21L4 option. Plus the car was 97% original with 49673 miles.

this is the car that Im talking about

Just wondering why you did not want it anymore? I watch the show but I think they over inflate the price of those cars way to much.

In my opinion, Barret Jackson is partially responsible for ruining the hobby for the REAL grass-roots guys like me, who build their own cars. Those bastards have helped inflate prices of even obscure undesireable car through the roof. Especially the mopars. Now every moron with a rusted-out 4 door 74 dart swinger wants 15K for it....... You cant even find good iron to satart with for a project anymore. I know it is everywhere out west, but what you pay $1200 for out west, we pay $7000 for here in michigan.......... These guys buy the $3 million dollar cudas just so they can tell their wine-and-cheese buddies they own the 1 of 1 $ 3 million dollar car, and neve even drive or share them with others......

EDIT: Nice road runner. My buddy's dad has a 71 with a 440/727/8.75......... Red/white stripe/white interior

I had bought the car off one of my co workers in mid 07 for $8500.00. What I thought I was buying was just your every day regular RoadRunner with the 360 motor. I was going to modify it but keep the original look with modern drive train. when I decoded the fender tag thats when all heck broke loose. I found out the car had the police motor and drive train option and the more I looked into the car the more that i found that the car was original. Hard to tear up a car that was in the condition that this one. As time went I had a registry search done on it and found out that out of 1350 that were made like mine with the 360High Performance / police package.......only 6 showed up in the registries accross North America. Not saying that there are only 6 of these cars left..... but....6 leagally registered. The fear of diving it in my city where I think we have accumulated the most retards behind the wheel, fearing of getting it smashed in by the local idiot....or getting it stolen.....I decided that I would not keep it...seeing that I couldnt modify it to my liking with out killing the value didnt help much either. So I traded it.

The next time Im buying a project car.....but me and Murphy's law....I'll probably end up with a rare barn find and still get screwed out of a HotRod or Street Machine :)

I agree, I think Barrett Jackson has ruined it for the average guy to buy a old American car for a decent price. Now only people with more money than sense can afford these cars. And you're right, every Joe out there thinks his rusted piece of junk is worth a small fortune. :)

I also watch as much of B-J as I can but lets be honest here….they make it about as difficult as they can to watch it.

1. They show a car to the gavel, they step away for a commercial. 2 or 3 minutes later they come back, give you more hype about a race on Speed next month, tell you about the beautiful 1970 number matching Chevelle LS6 (or whatever) that just sold for the daily high. And move on to an Olds 54 4 door sedan from the GM collection. Then, step out for more commercials. What is that all about?

2. Then I am tired of hearing what the third digit of the VIN number of 62 Corvette means.

3. Will someone please tell Bob Varsha (spelling, I know) to take a breath now and than.

4. Will someone also please tell Bob that the world does not revolve around Amy Assitier (spelling, I know). While we are at it, I am a little tired of hearing about a grown man named “Spankly†all night long.

5. Will they please stop with all of the crazy nonsense about whether a car is a “recreationâ€, or a “resto-mod†or a “new-old-stock†or “tribute†or even a “clone-carâ€? Just get to the cars!! And lastly,

6. Can they show any more shots of that bloated over ripe arrogant Craig Jackson? Can he be any more full of himself? Will Bob V. please refrain from running his tongue up one side of him and down the other for five minutes?

Don’t get me wrong, I love the cars, but the presentation stinks, in my opinion. I also agree that they do the average collector a dis-service by artificially driving the cost of these cars up. The prices are high, then the fees and other ###### tacked on certainly but all but the very lowest priced car out of the average guys league. Lets face it, the cream puffs, the best cars are being purchased by the big cash rich professional collections to be but back on display somewhere. They come from a collection and get sold to a collection.

These guys could save millions if they just talked to each other now and then, swapped a few cars between themselves. Then Speed could do a nice show about each collection and I would not be subjected to watching the fat face of Craig Jackson complaining to the crowd that they are not ponying-up enough cash for the car on the block that has stalled in bidding at $50,000. He wants a bigger piece of the pie, in more ways then one.

Or, maybe I am wrong or crazy and I see this whole thing with a jaundiced eye, I don’t know.

I agree that they have just about ruined the market, everyone thinks that they have a BJ car that they're selling. But the thing is going the other way now, evilBay auctions with over-priced cars are not moving. I see the same cars relisted 4 times or more. Prices will come down in time when people get a reality check about the market not as hot as they think it is.

I watch the auctions once in a while, mainly to put myself to sleep or kill an hour or so. The "car guys" on the show don't know their a$$ from their elbow about cars. Their spiel is "wannabe" rhetoric that they regurgitate on a predictable basis.

Realistically, unless you got your musclecar back in the 70's or 80's when the prices were actually reasonable, the days of getting a decent muscle car to restore and enjoy are over. I have seen some cars on BJ that I thought should have brought in more money than they did, while others I wouldn't have given a wooden nickel for go for 6 and 7 figures. There's no rhyme or reason, it's just the way the ball bounces. Case in point, I couldn't believe the money that rodded Lincoln Zephyr brought in a couple years ago, but it just goes to show, something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I can't stand Craig Jackson. He's a pompus idiot no matter how you slice his rolls of fat, but you have to give him credit. He saw an opportunity to capitalize on the automotive collector market and he has made himself a nice living doing what he does. However, I can see his auctions declining in both popularity and participation in the coming years with the economy what it is now. People will soon find other more meaningful ways to spend their millions and I doubt it will be on collector cars. Then and only then will the day come when the average joe can once again afford the great musclecars and vintage cars we remember from our youth.

Yeah it's starting to get a little old. I'm getting tired of Matt Stone, who blubbers about having one every time a 442 rolls by. Magnante can be entertaining if you can get by the drone of his voice. In their defense though, it's tough to keep it fresh after a few years of doing what seems to be the same muscle cars over and over again. The other auction shows are more low key and a lot more palatable to me, what isn't low key compared to BJ?

The reality is that Craig is a third generation Jackson doing the auction thing, so it is more like being at the right place at the right time than building something from nothing. Kinda' like The Donald Trump, his daddy set him up in the business so his job was "just don't screw it up"...I give these guys credit for just not "screwing it up".

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Have any of you whiners found the volumn control????

Why has BJ "ruined it?" if you really watch all auctions you will notice a handfull of rich boys playing with "DADS" $$

These clowns overbid....so BJ shouldn't take it??? And if you watch the early nights lots of sweet drivers to be had at fair prices B)

This is true Peter. For whatever reason, it has been since Craig's pretty much taken the reigns that he's gotten the publicity on Speed and so forth.

As for the volume control, it's kinda hard to mute everything when they are telling what options each car comes with and so forth. And, for as boring as they can be sometimes, I have learned quite a bit about different cars from the commentary of the guys who narrate the auctions. I enjoy seeing the bidders who win who are genuinely happy that they won the car they've been searching for. You can tell the ones who are sincerely appreciative of the car they just won and the looks on their faces as they shake the auctioneer's hands after winning. To me, that's what it's all about.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: I dont think they wil be breaking any sales records this year....over the last 3 days I have heard Craig complain on how under paid the cars are being sold at compared to previous years....But thats what economy does....when its good....so is are the investers with the $$$....when the economy is bad....people are more stingy with the $$$.

Cant wait to see what the big money cars go for this year....

I think we're not done hearing the whining from the hosts B):P:P

Sale prices are definitely down over previous years. Definitely a buyer's market if you've got the bucks. As for the show, well yeah, I get a little tired of all the Camaros, Corvettes, and Chevelles separated by 10 commercials. More often than not I turn it off and go work on a model.

My thoughts too. I've been looking to buy a 1958 Vette the last couple of years. I'm not looking for a show type car but a car that I can drive and enjoy. All the ones I've seen on evil-bay or have gone and looked at are priced out of my reach. But with the economy slowing down, people are looking to get rid of expencive play toys that they can't afford. So prices are bound to start to drop.

I live here in Phoenix and love and hate BJ auctions lol. I hate that they have over inflated the market but also love that they come up with stuff that people would have never known about or have forgot by now. Another big back in forth is the fact that HUGE local collectors buy a lot of the most pricey or rare cars but I CAN'T see them. I'm tired of seeing HUGE warehouses with the name of the collection with a sign CLOSED to the public. They want the attention on the TV but won't take $5 to look around??? And last rant is I am native to Phoenix AZ and have always wanted to just go look and for the entry fee and food and whatever I for some reason can't even go look around at good cars. But then again maybe thats what BJ wants.... Believe me the looks I got years ago pulling into their Scottsdale store location in a 1988 Chevy Celebrity will never escape me. Or the day that my wife went to a High end rental place with the money for a Ferrari rental with the insurance cost and she was laughed off the lot cause what we drove..(and she had the money) . I've been kicked out of the side roads taking pictures as cars file in to BJ. MY opinion is keep up the BJ TV , the cars are beautiful and coverage is good. Gives us something to watch when Good sports is not on... Don't get me wrong , I watch avidly, and will for years.....Craig must be screaming now..... It's raining.....

Wait a minute, wait a minute. Some of you are saying that Barrett-Jackson is responsible for inflating prices on cars.

That statement would indicate to me that there is some kind of collusion going on between the seller and the buyer.

IMO they are simply providing a service, or vehicle, if you will, to sell cars. That's what they are in business for. When an Amphicar sells for over 100 grand, is that their "fault"? Sure there is a lot of hype and presentation, but that is what it is all about. When you see the cars coming across on the first couple of days, you see prices that are more than reasonable. Last night I saw a 61-62 Caddie, series 62, 2 door hardtop, with 1 re-paint go for 21 grand.

I'm sure that re-paint must have cost 15 grand. Take all the chrome off, sand the imperfections, paint, and only 21 grand? How about a 59 Continental convertible @ 43 grand? There is no way you could get that car to look the way it did for 43 grand. A car, regardless of make, model, year, degree of restoration, resto-mod, etc, is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

As to Amy Sparks/Lassiter... She is to me, eye candy, and should I ever win the Lottery, and get to go there and buy, I'm buying from her. As to the other " commentators ", well, they have probably forgotten more about these individual cars that I ever knew.

Craig Jackson is fat? So................. what.

I could go on and on but there is a really yellow Jag coming across the block now and I must watch.

Thanks guys

my opinion, i like the show, its not bj's fault how much a car goes for. its how much the people want to pay. regular auctions are the same way. a lot of the cars have been restored, the prices get high on a lot of them because most of the bidders are looking at how much it would cost to restore the same car and how much it would cost to buy one already restored. if a lot of those cars were mine and i payed for the restore and new how much blood and sweat went into the restore, i think i would be wanting top dollar also. again about the prices, look at how much some of the models on ebay go for. someone pays $40 for a model, you can turn around sometimes the very next week and score one for $15. i think its funny, and it just goes to show its all in how much someone wants to pay or how long someone has desired to have one and will pay whatever it takes to get it. if i had the money to spend i would be buying them all up also, like the collectors. im sure im not the only one that thinks the same as me. and if you dont like the show, then dont watch it. go build a model. id rather not stress over an auction.
