Hotrod 97 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 The famous jet truck known as “Shockwave”, after about 3 1/2 decades of entertainment, made its last run this past Saturday. The fiery crash happened on Saturday, July 2 during the Field of Flight Air Show at Battle Creek Field, Michigan. Neither the truck, nor the driver, survived. Here’s a link to an article with some more information: https://jalopnik.com/driver-dies-in-jet-truck-crash-at-michigan-airshow-1849144522 Condolences and prayers to Chris’ family, and all who were affected by the event.
Fat Brian Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 This reminds me of Richard Hammonds' crash in the jet car on Top Gear. Both seem to have been caused by a high speed tire failure.
Oldcarfan27 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 While watching the above video, it looks like the engine exploded in the back before the truck rolled over. Very tragic, but it shows the inherent danger involved in extreme racing.
THarrison351 Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 Tire failure ruptured the fuel tank causing a massive fire.
Smoke Wagon Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 Terribly sad indeed. On the flip side, a Jalopnik article that isn’t chock full of shameless political commentary and dozens of typos? Impressive.
