There could certainly be more rationality in the world, along with logic, common-sense, common-knowledge, and a grasp of how cause-and-effect works.

Works, people don’t understand how anything works anymore, they just wait for someone else to post a video explaining to them what to do

Training young newly hired techs is part of my job that I find especially challenging because they have very little to NO formal training and very little experience, and as LennyB posted above, they just want to access YouTube videos on their phones to teach them everything

Everything they see on these YouTube videos they believe and they will argue the point because it must be true as there is a video all about it.

Yup, I've been there and seen that.

The two main problems with that as I see it is that YT may show them how to do the one job (I won't deny that I've found valuable tricks on YT), but it almost never imparts baseline knowledge or theory as to WHY and HOW the one-time fix works...and the info is often just flat wrong anyway, so you get guys buggering things just like the YT hacker said to, and now you have an even worse mess to clean up.

Another real sad note is that almost nobody coming in to apply for entry-level "technician" jobs even has sufficient reading-comprehension skill to go to a printed manual (we have an extensive print library at the old-car shop) to look up a repair procedure or specification...and they have to be HS grads to apply.

Yup...I've encountered that too, and sent one argumentative yoo-toob-certified know-it-all on down the road.
