Here it goes im looking for a new car this spring. My truck is great but i don't need that kind of vehicle anymore and im looking for something fun .

I did narrow my choices to 2

Dodge Challenger SRT8 and a 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S

Im stuck now i did drove both , both are great cars

Challenger will be new i can pick my own options color what ever and i it will be 6 speed for sure. now the bad its a Chrysler , a bit overweight and interior is meh .

Porsche will be within 40 to 50 thousand miles range. Driving pleasure is one of the best out there . But its not new im on a mercy of a previous owner as the maintenance goes.

so witch one would you chose and why

...2005 cadillac cts-V

better performance, styling and interior versus.... challenger, lol.

most likely driven by an older person, 4 door, but sporty as heck, also fun!!

400hp... 395 fpt....

take one for a drive, you`ll change your mind instantly!

First of all how much would you be using the car, everyday or once in awhile as a toy? I would look at how much regular maintenance would cost for each one. How much is insurance is for each one? Like you said you do not really know the maintenance record of the Porsche . I Myself would not have either one but that's just Me. Good Luck

You want an anvil or a scalpel to do the same job?

Choosing between two cars that are so vastly different from each other is not easy. I can't make that decision for you! It really depends on what you need from a driver on a day to day basis, and what you want. The Challenger may be new and cool, but the downside is it's a huge/heavy car and it will suck back gasoline at a prodigious rate. Soon the newness will wear off and it won't be as special. The V8 soundtrack might be enough to make you take less notice about the cheesy interior. But the cheesy interior will hold four in very good comfort, and it has a big trunk. Chrysler may not survive, the car could be an orphan very soon...

The Porsche is a totally different class of car. The performance will be amazing, they're also very comfortable cars but only for two (very small kids/dogs are about all one could humanely put in the back seat). Handling/steering will be sharp and natural, acceleration will easily match the Challenger. Maintenance will be expensive, later model Carreras are known to be very reliable; Porsches will go the distance and rack up plenty of mileage as good as anything, but service/parts prices can be sobering, especially if you don't do your own work. A friend had an '80's Carrera that looked great, and found out it was his daily driver for years with well over 200K miles, bought it from a brother in law and he did his own maintenance/repairs.

Anvil or scalpel?

To echo what Bob said, weigh very carefully what the maintenance costs for each would be. The one thing about certain European cars (Porsche and Mercedes in particular), is that they can run for a long, long, long, time without anything major happening to them.

When something does go wrong however, be prepared to shell out BIG $$$$$ to get it fixed!

Having owned three different Mercedes in the past (a 240 D, and 280 SEL, and a 250 S), I can vouch for how expensive certain things can be!............and I was particular about getting regular oil changes, trans checkup, etc.

The Porsche will hold its value a lot better in the long run than the Challenger IMO.............but I'd be cautious of a second owner Porsche unless I knew the owner well.

Then there is that nagging feeling that Chrysler might not survive.................

You've heard the saying---------------"Caveat Emptor"!

I did drive ctsv its OK but if i buy American i has to be new . I don't want o spend that kind of money on a basically 4 door car this is a used M5 territory and cts will lose so that's done.

Bob that was my point anvil or a scalpel nicely put . They are both very nice cars , dodge might be a little bit more practical but im not looking for that at this point, both are extremely good fun. I still have some time to decide its nothing ill lose sleep over it its is a good problem to have

Technically there both European since the Challenger is based of the Chrysler LX platform. which is was developed originally by Mercedes-Benz which they used in the S-class

No, that's a misunderstanding by a lot of people..............the LX platform is a stand alone item. It uses some bits and pieces and items from Daimler's inventory, but it was not a strict platform formerly used under Daimler's luxury stuff.

Daimler would have none of that! :P

Here's a couple of other choices if you have that kind of disposable income. BMW M3 series -good quality, great handling, good looks, peformance.Same for the Lexus Is350,Audi A6,TTcoupe,Infinity G35 coupe. These are all new car choices to consider. Just my opinion B)

i drive a mercury mountaineer right now thats as close to a minivan as i ever would like to get <_<

I (my wife) have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, and the only thing we wish is that we could have afforded more options with it. This thing is base line, I mean it doesn't even have power mirrors.

Nice problem to have <_<

If I had to choose between those 2 only, I'd go with the Porsche. Far better handling while having good power. Most likely better fuel economy and more reliable. Parts and maintenance are no longer cheap in any car. Check both for fit, finish and materials: Porsche wins again. A decade from now, the Porsche will still feel solid. Not so sure about the Challenger. Personally, I prefer the looks of the Porsche.

However: If I were in that situation: I'd also look at a new Corvette Z51 (Jetstream blue with the upgraded interior) or a new Cayman S....... but that's just me.

If not in a hurry, maybe wait to see if the CTS-V coupe materializes.

Thanks,

Buy a Toyota Corolla, then take all the money you save on the initial purchase, gas and maintenance on more model kits. <_<

Sorry I'm not much help, the closest I've been to owning a Porsche was the VW Bug my parents had when I was a kid.
