Well this one's toast. Started foiling the rear window and the foil pulled the paint up. So it's going in the junk box. Last time it will ever mess with BMF. From now on I will stick to my silver Sharpie.

Yeah. Killed my motivation for this one. Think I'll go back to building tanks for awhile.

What kind of paint did you use? Looks like a white primer under the body color.

I would treat this as a learning experience. Looking at the finish on the roof and trunk you see plenty of "fisheyes" indicating prep issues and adhesion problems. The Krylon stuff won't key into the plastic like hobby paint tends to... it needs a primer to help promote that adhesion. At least your BMF doesn't seem to have the poor adhesive issue that some recent batches have shown.

I'd strip the paint (should be easy, right?) prime with a compatible primer after scuffing and washing the surface and reshoot. I'm guessing your results will be a lot different the second time around!

I'm not new to the stripping and repainting game as I have been doing it for years. The BMF I used was some really old stuff that I have had for years-maybe that was the problem. I have some newer stuff but as most of us know it doesn't stick well. Anyway, I have already stripped the body and prepped it for new paint. I try to avoid primer because it just creates a thicker layer of paint and things normally go well without it. Gonna try painting again this afternoon but no more BMF for me. I'm just disillusioned with the paint and BMF problems that most of us have experienced over the last few years. Always felt like BMF was way overpriced anyway as I have to model on a budget.

I agree with your frustration. BMF before was hard to remove or leavening glue residue behind. Now the new stuff don’t stick. I have seen pull paint off before and model paint. Hang in there Gerald don’t let it beat you!

Was gonna try painting the body this morning but it's raining already and I have to spray outdoors. Decided to change the color to Tamiya AS-8 Navy Blue. It's a 50s era USN aircraft color with a slight greenish tint to the blue. I think it will be appropriate for a shoe box Ford and still won't be too flashy. Dark blue was also pretty common on cars back then.

Got the body painted again. This will probably be the last pic until it goes in Under Glass as there isn't much left of interest to show.

Very nice color; really changes the "feel" of the car!

Love these old shoebox Fords, great to see you working thru the paint mishap, looking good!

Thanks guys. I may not even clear coat it as I remember a lot of them fading to just about this sheen and it would add to the sleeper vibe as well.

I agree with everyone else on the color. There wasn't anything wrong with your first choice, but this looks a lot like some of the colors that Ford also offered.

Got the body detailed finally. Started a new part time job that slowed progress. I will do the door handles later as the silver tends to rub off the sharp edges from handling. Not even attempting the trunk lid hinges.

Really looks good with the added trim. You mention having a problem handling the body with the silver rubbing off. I usually do all my trim with foil, but a lot of the fine details start to look a little lumpy sometimes. Another builder here on the forum mentioned using the Gundam Marker for chrome trim and I have been pleased with the results. Just a thought to try. The paint finish looks a little flat in the photos, is that by design?

I want the paint to appear dull just to add to the sleeper look.
