I really do not like seam lines on parts. The chrome on the spare tires had a very bad seam line. So I sanded it and repainted it with spaz stix. Came out pretty good. Better than expected. "

This has been the bane of model of model building forever. I used to leave the chrome with the mould seam lines until Alcad the Molotow came along - they are a game changer. We can now clean up the seam lines and repaint and it looks so much better

And good work with this ancient kit

Great work with the chrome and metal surfaces.

David G.

Thank you David G. I have sprayed only a couple of chrome paints, I had 5 different types in stock, so this build made me try them. Some surprised me , while others not so much , but it made me try them. Spaz stix was the cheapest and it seemed to work pretty good. I used tamiya ts14 black and sprayed spaz stix and it worked pretty good. I read the reviews on the product and they were minimal at best. But for me it turned out great. What also surprised my is that I let it dry for several days and it is more durable than alclad by far.

Great job so far.   Will be following along.   I have several of these old Monogram kits in the stash and have grown to appreciate them as I've gotten older.

Thank you drifterdon. Going to put her on her tires and wheels soon. These old monogram kits are pretty cool.

Outstanding work Bruce!  I love the two different silvers you used. Going to be a beautiful car when finished.

Thank you Carl. The fit and finish of the model is really old , and as your into building it, things just do not fit right.. But I’m dealing with it. Not a contest winner by a long shot. The car is sitting square, meaning all four tires touch the ground. Surprising since the frame was so warped.  Glued the fenders in place. Just set the body on and the fit needs work. Not perfect by a long shot but fun and I’m learning on these old kits. A820A0E4-62DB-4F39-AB44-6968B91A28E1.thumb.jpeg.81546f2714ad7c394d347fbfed87a279.jpeg

I forgot to say that I used several different types of chrome paint. ( some are inks I guess) molotow, house of color, spaz stick, alclad and testors silver in a spray can. The different finishes made the engine a little more interesting. Molotow was the best for duplicating chrome.

That’s one of my most enjoyable aspect of building engines, simulating the various types of metals and finishes with paint. A one colour engine imo is a dull detail. You are doing this kit justice.

Well the kit caught me off guard. When I put the fenders on the frame the rear tires were too far back. So I modified the rear springs and rear end so the tires sit in the wheelhouse properly. That was a job. Doing modifications after it’s painted is a little nerve racking. Had to do it. Just does not look right if the tires and wheels do not sit in the fenders correctly. Finally corrected.

Put the running boards on and the steering rods. The car caught me again, when I put the running boards on , it twisted the frame. So I removed them and reset the running boards to the car and put the right twist in the frame so all the tires sit flat on the ground. Looks good now. I’m going to have to really get the body to sit right on the frame or the same thing might happen. I have the IPMS rules in my head, the first thing the judges look for on cars is that all four tires are on the ground. So I corrected the problem so far.

Glued the floor in place and set the body on the frame and fenders. Set the interior in the body to see if there are any more surprises. This car I’m building on a mirror. Just to keep things straight. I built my model factory hiro Ferrari p4 on a mirror to keep that build straight.

Spraying the interior. Cut carpet from a mfh kit that I had left over. Using focus interior colors. Primed with a dark grey, then there are three air brush steps. I just sprayed the light color. Shading is next then color. This is all new to me. Only sprayed this one other time in my ferrari 166.

Great interior color!, Bruce!  I hope you have the twist fixed. Your interior col and body color is giving me ideas for my 31 Çadillac museum piece build…

Thank you Carl, I did not know these interior colors were available. I guess you have to order this stuff from Spain. The USA order, does not have it here. Mark got it for me from Spain. This was awhile back. May be different now. The reddish color goes good with the silver. Only a few more things to chrome and it’s put together time and it will be finished.
