Aaronw Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) Kind of planning ahead for my next shopping spree (please taxman have good news next week ), I'd like to get a good 67-69 Camaro, preferably with the RS option, along with an early 70s 2nd generation Camero. I'd also like a couple of Chevelles, it looks like Lindberg does a nice '66, but I'd also like one of the later styles (68-72?). If I throw in a '69 Nova I should have the early Chevrolet muscle car genre pretty well covered. Thanks Edited January 25, 2009 by Aaronw
Eshaver Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Arron, for a minute there , I thought you were talkig about 1-1 cars as you were discussing the differences . Charlotte Auto fair is fast approaching and mebbie I can find enough parts to re-build at least one of of my 53-56 Ford truck transmissions ! I own several with the same problem! Ed Shaver

Ed Shaver I'd love a 1-1 of any of those but I know the taxman won't have news that good, so I'll have to settle for kits.
LVZ2881 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 the only 67-68 kits are the older AMT issued kits... You cant beat the Revell '69 Camaro kits...the Z28's have the option for both regular and RS options. Revell also does a nice '67 SS396 Chevelle kit. the only '69 Chevelle is the AMt kit. Monogram and AMT have done 70 Chevelles...the AMT kits body looks better... the Recent AMT issue of the 70 Z28 and Baldwin Motion Camaros are nice...Model King just reissued the Z28 kit, but the B/M kit is starting to get harder to find. you might conder picking up an AMT '66 Nova..you can build the L79 327 car with it, and its a pretty nice kit too
LoneWolf15 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Aaron, Revell's ' 69 Camaros are excellent kits. The AMT Camaros with a little work, and a whole lot a raidin' the parts box , come out sweet also . The Old Man
Andy Wyatt Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Ditto what was said about the Revell Camaro's...they go together really well with no fit issues. Here's one I did straight out of the box with some engine detailing.
James W Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 If you want a later Chevelle, use the AMT 69 and pick up an AMT 69 Olds 442 for the chassis. The Olds was tooled in the 80's and the chassis is the best thing out there in my opinion. It works well under AMT GTOs and the new(old) AMT 79 Monte Carlo as well.
LoneWolf15 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Add this to my list , the Lindberg '66 Chevelle is excellent ! Sorry ! Halfheimers strikes again ! The Old Man
93Z34 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 There is no better '69 Camaro kit than the Revell issue. That kit is simply the best one on the market, bar none. Even the 1/12th scale version is aces. As for '66 Chevelle, the Lindberg kit is sweet to say the least. I would dare say that's the best of the lot as well. You can't go wrong with those releases and both beuild up into awesome looking replicas.

Aaronw Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks, I've picked up several of the Mustang kits and need something to balance out all the Fords.
Aaronw Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 While browsing I realized I missed a whole 1/3 of the Big 3 How about a suggestion for a '70-74 'Cuda or Challenger, I've always liked the look of that car. Might as well recommend a Charger too. Also how are Revell's '69 GTO, 68 & 70 Firebirds? Definately starting to become a wish list instead of a shopping list.
James W Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Revells 68 Firebird is a recent tool. very nicely done, but the wheels/tires are a disapointment. 69 (and 68) GTO is an older mid 80's Monogram tool. It builds up well but is a little simplistic, typical of their kits of the era. Think 69 Super Bee. The 70 Trans Am was updated from a Firebird kit, also from the 80's Monogram program and suffers the same shortfalls. If you just want a nice shelf model they are not bad. With a bunch of extras they can be spectacular.
Jeff Johnston Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 What everyone else said..... The Revell 69 Camaro's are great. The Revell 67 CHevelle, IMHO, is one of the top 5 revell kits ever made. It just falls together. The AMT 70 Camaro is a great kit too...what's a year ? LOL The AMT 67's ands 68's are OK, but take quite a but more patience
