I recall seeing something like that in some '60's era Corvette kits. The real Corvette used such an air cleaner set up on many of their carbureted engines in the '60's.

I've seen too many GTOs with that style air cleaner, to think it wasn't stock.  They didn't all have functional hood scoops or the "tub" that seals up to the underside of the hood.  That said, some Corvette kits (AMT '55 in particular) had that style air cleaner, but none I'm aware of even attempted to put the louver detail around the perimeter.

Well, that is certainly not stock on a GTO.?

Yes sir, that is 100% factory stock for a non-ram air '67 GTO.

Thank you, sir. I went and dug out a '55 Corvette kit.....and while it DOES have the same basic design (without louvers), it's only about half the diameter.

Looks like a job for 3D printing.  No GTO kit I'm aware of ever had that air cleaner: heck, the MPC '67 still had tri-power!  A molded styrene part won't ever have the louver detail; adding that wouldn't allow the part to be pulled out of the tool.

Tri-Power ended with the 389 and 421 in 1966. 1967 was 400 and 428.

Not according to MPC!  In their world, '67s had it, as did Bonnevilles through 1970.  Mopar guys could still get a Hemi Challenger or Barracuda in '74...

One thing to remember with the appearance of the engine and air filter. This was a time when stricter emission requirements in several states actually made it illegal for manufactures to use open element air cleaners, California being one of them. This had to do with what they called the crankcase vent system that would put the vapors into the air cleaner housing, and not required in every state. I think California's reasoning was that an open element air cleaner would allow the vapors to inter the atmosphere creating pollution. This along with pumping fresh air into the exhaust manifolds was supposed to save us all.

Update on this topic, in case anyone else is interested. The Revell '58 Corvette has an air cleaner that is almost exactly like the Pontiac pancake Air cleaner, the only difference is it has 3 wing nut indentions instead of one.....easily fixed. Lee (Classicgas) was kind enough to send me one. So if anyone wants to build a non-ram air '67 GTO, there you go.
