ModelcarJR Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) I don't build many NASCAR so this is my only offering for the year. This AMT kit (I don't know but might be an old MPC kit) doesn't have any parts numbers on the trees. Therefore, the numbering in the instructions mean nothing as you just have the match everything up visually. The front suspension is horrible with few pins and ill-fitting parts. I used Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue for the Petty Blue. The engine is nothing to look at so I am not concerned that my photo didn't turn out. I did add a window net from a window net kit from Scale Model Speedway that I have had for about 30 years. The build turned out OK but I was disappointed with the kit. Here are the photos of the finished product. Thanks for looking! ? Edited October 24, 2022 by ModelcarJR Correct title 1
THarrison351 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 This is nice! I'm curious though, why you've titled it Dart Sprint Car? I was a Chrysler "Kit" car meant for Late Model Sportsman racing.
ModelcarJR Posted October 24, 2022 Author Posted October 24, 2022 Thanks, Larry, Carl and Tim! I appreciate your comments! Tim, I don't know why I have sprint car on there. The box says Dodge Dart and I think I read sprint car somewhere while researching. The box also says late Model Sportsman as well so I have corrected the title. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for looking! ?
Bainford Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 That turned out great, John. I love 70s Asphalt short trackers, especially when they're not Camaros, and this build captures that look nicely. Well done.
TonyK Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 I've read a lot of bad things about the front suspension and the kit in general but your model looks great sitting there. Haven't built mine because of the bad reviews but when I see one like yours it inspires me to dig out the kit.
ModelcarJR Posted October 25, 2022 Author Posted October 25, 2022 Thanks, Trevor, Bob and Tony! I appreciate your comments! Good luck Tony on your build. My advice is to build the front suspension before you attach the interior platform so you have more room to work and adjust the suspension. Also, the brake rotors may be too much of this build as I had to move the right wheel all the way onto the axle in order to get it to stick out only a bit. I don't think they should stand outside the front fender by half the width of the tires as some I have seen. Thanks for looking! ?
Dragline Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 This car came out great from where I' m sitting. Yes the front is a tad wide. Yes the attachment points are iffy. But it looks like despite all that you crushed it anyway. I have one 90% done but I am fresh out of BMF. It was challenging but where else does this exist?
Dutzie Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Your persistence paid off. Great looking build.
