Mike 1017 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 If there any fans out there. What is gonna happen to the show and the fisherman now that the Bearing Sea crab grounds are closed? I have been watching the series since day 1. Mike
stitchdup Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 They'll probably start doing longer trips further offshore. thats what the fishermen did when the grounds shut on this side of the pond. My best guess is they'll be working the boats further south and in much deeper waters
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 And there'll likely be a whole lotta poaching too. After all, who's going to enforce the closure? There's never been any shortage of folks who'll ignore restrictions.
Mike 1017 Posted October 28, 2022 Author Posted October 28, 2022 Bill, The Snow Crabs are gone. Probably heading to Russia for colder water. King Crab is shut down. Coast Guard. It is a big ocean !! Processing, facilities, and fish markets would be forced not to buy any Alaska crab. Sig was in Norway trying to get into the Norwegian crab industry. Mike 1

stitchdup Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 crab and lobster always go into deeper water when it gets cold. if they stay in shallower water they end up smashed against the rocks
Mike 1017 Posted October 29, 2022 Author Posted October 29, 2022 My wife and I have steak fillet and King Crabs for our New Year's Eve dinner. A tradition for over 30 years. {OUCH !!} Gonna miss those spiney, hard to cut open crustations, and they are worth all the hard work. Mike

Ace-Garageguy Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) For what it's worth (not much), I quit eating king and snow crab many years ago. The populations have been declining from overfishing for decades, but it's been more expedient to lie about it, or more recently to blame "climate change" or other boogieman causes, and avoids placing any responsibility on the part of consumers. https://peer.org/alaska-red-king-crab-dethroned-by-scientific-fraud/ PS: Anybody remember seeing vast herds of buffalo recently? No? Why do you suppose that is? Edited October 29, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy CLARITY 1
Mike 1017 Posted October 31, 2022 Author Posted October 31, 2022 The government would probably put crab on the forbidden list or protected species alert to all the processers and fish markets. Mike

According to Professor Theodore Nugent of Motor City University, the blame is to be placed on "the white man, with his thick and empty head. He couldn't see past his billfold; he wanted ALL the buffalo dead." This happened long ago in the New Magic Land, where the Indian and the buffalo existed hand-in-hand. (Guess what? I've got a FEVER. And the only prescription...is MORE COWBELL!) 1
Mike 1017 Posted November 1, 2022 Author Posted November 1, 2022 My wife and I went to Hawaii a couple months ago. I wondered what Hawaii looked like before Captain Cook invaded.
BlackSheep214 Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Meh... interesting to watch but not on my must watch list.
