ea0863
HRM April 2008 also had an article on two hot rods out of Detroit. The first was the Chrysler SR 392 built by Shadow Rods of Saginaw. Just the epitome of gorgeousness IMHO.
ea0863
The second car coming out of Detroit was the GM E85 Coupe built by Wheel to Wheel of Madison Heights. Wow!

ea0863
Sketches by Steve Stanford in HRM June 2008. I particularly like the Plymouth Duster UTE. Here a Duster turned Lead Sled, and another a Highboy. Both sweet! Some tricked out Fox bodies (the mid engine version appeals most to me) Beautiful roadsters and C-cab And last but not least, some variations on the first generation Monte Carlo
ea0863
So the word is Zeus wanted a fast ride, and told Hermes to design it for him (on account of his winged shoes and all). What came out was the otherworldly Blastolene B-702 - which as it turns out, truly was a car fit for a god! The photos of this car in the article are incredible. I mean really? - - - this thing is nearly 20 feet long! Has anyone attempted this car in scale?
ea0863
Here was a little pitch for the Petersen Automotive Museum, with a photo of the only car I know as long as the Blastolene! I've seen this car (technically called the 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe) in said basement of the museum, and it is HUGE It would be so great to build in scale. ea0863
Model Cars Magazine issue #217 just arrived in my mail yesterday, and its theme was race car haulers (great issue by the way!) In honor of this theme, here is the Tommy Ivo hauler pictured in HRM September 2008. Looks like another fun build idea to me... This was a whole 'nuther level of kit car! FFR is still producing the GTM, and I have seen it at a number of shows. It is spectacular to look at, and has incredible performance abilities. I would LOVE to build this one in scale, but I don't believe a kit exists. FFR also still makes Cobra and Daytona kits. Over the years, they have also segued to some beautiful hot rod kits (coupe, roadster, and truck), as well as a very interesting car called the "818" which uses a Subaru WRX donor. I visited the FFR factory about five years ago, and can attest to the impeccable quality of their production. The 818 in particular appeals to me, as it is mid engine and would make a good track car. Doing a little more research, I discovered a discontinued Factory Five car called the "Daytona Spyder". It looks like a great shape to me, and something I would love to recreate in scale. Scott Colmer
I saw the round door RR in the Peterson basement. It was stunning. It takes a step stool to get up inside. Lots go cool cars down there.

ea0863
It's so funny to see over the years how car drawings in HRM would eventually become reality. It speaks to just how influential the magazine was to the sport. In that vein, September 2009 offered up some more tantalizing sketches hoping for a builder. Anyone know what it is? HRM August 2003 Oh, and remember that truck I saw in an ad in 2003, but couldn't figure out what it was? HRM September 2009 had this little nugget that unraveled the mystery: I looked up Mike Cooper (aka Lodi Madman), and learned he is an artist and woodworker primarily, and likes to sculpture things - including vehicles. Here, he had done a beautiful dash for Dick Long's '37 Ford Cabriolet. However, in another instance, he turned his attention to a '33 Ford truck which was named "Tubester". And when you look it up, voila - the truck from the ad appears, as rad as ever! This is the wood dash: And this is the wood bed with radiator and air ducts: I reallylike the juxtaposition of heavy metal and hard lines meeting organic shapes and natural materials.
