ea0863 Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 I'm not sure if others are having technical difficulties, but just recently my initial link to the HRM magazines starting acting up. I have been accessing it by going to the main Motor Trend page and clicking on "Magazines".
Scott Colmer Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I am guessing you already know that Jimmy Flintstone sells a resin replica of the GR. It is a solid block of resin. I'm not sure if it is 100% accurate to 1/25th scale. Maybe? Mine was missing some decals so I had to improvise. 1
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 HRM February 2005 had this small segment on a truck designed by Chris Ito and being built by Steve's Auto Restorations called "Ramrod". At first I thought it was a '33 Dodge pickup, but when compared to a stock vehicle, there isn't much that hasn't been heavily modified. Just a glorious series of curves and arcs. I so want to either build this one in scale, or find it in diecast otherwise. And, as for me, I would totally want it in bare metal as seen here! Here are some other photos from the web; And here it is completed
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 And speaking of Chris Ito and Steve's Auto Restorations, HRM June 2005 had this on a '35 DeSoto Airflow to be called "Phantom Airflow". I don't know if this one ever saw the light of day, as there was nothing of it in Steve's website - although there were plenty of other phenomenal builds! https://www.stevesautorestorations.com/projects/
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Just a nice, honest, '64 Dodge Polara gasser survivor. HRM June 2005 1
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Chip Foose '36 Ford roadster known as "Impression". HRM July 2005
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) HRM August 2005 did a cover story on the newly released Dukes of Hazzard movie As was only right, the General Lee was the star of the movie And in the same issue of this magazine were a couple of drawings I thought would be so fun to replicate in scale! The first; a "General Grant" to represent the North Or, a modern two door version of General Lee Edited January 11, 2023 by ea0863
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Sticking with the theme of high powered Mopars, the same issue also did an article on a secret Chrysler program that was developing 1971 Daytonas and Superbirds. Not only were these cars wicked cool, there was even a little scale model drama thrown in;
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 And finally, an ad showing Jay Leno's Blastolene Special, affectionately known as "The Tank Car" due to its 29.4L M47 Patton tank motor! Over-the-top gorgeousness, with money-is-no-object creativity
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 '46 Cadillac Sedanette lowrider. HRM September 2005
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Another Steve's Auto Restorations car - this one a '64 GTO on the cover. I wonder if Steve Frisbie has ever had a TV show? Considering how prolific and accomplished he is, his company certainly would have merited the notoriety. The article also brought up the trend of taking old muscle cars and putting them over all new frames, suspensions, and drivetrains - - - what we today call resto-mods. ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 The Teverbaugh & Kirkland '57 Bangert Salt Flats racer. I saw this car a couple of years ago in the Petersen Museum, and it has a great stance and personality. This article in HRM September 2005 does a good job of documenting its restoration, and has some nice photos for anyone looking to reproduce it in scale.
ea0863 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Great story for my Canadian friends! An article about a gentleman who bought the Rankin Ford '65 A/FX Falcon "Wild Child" on ebay, and not only resurrected it - but commissioned AMT to make a 1:25 scale kit as well! Heck, I want to commission a few dozen different cars in scale - - - how do I go about doing it?

HRM November 2004 Now I'm totally looking for a scale model of this stunner! So far, not much luck finding a '64 Charger to base the concept car on. Would this Lindberg work, or does someone know of a better choice? I think the 330 and Polara had different wheelbases, but I'm not sure if that was the case in '64 or later.

I'm very likely wrong but I'm sure I've seen someone build one on here

ea0863 Posted January 12, 2023 Author Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) Now THAT's a car that would be fun to show up at a car show with! HRM January 2006 Rob Ida Concepts did complete the build awesomely And it looks like they're still building great stuff (although there seems to have been all kinds of courtroom drama about this recreation - just like the original car had) https://robidaconcepts.com/builds/ Edited January 12, 2023 by ea0863 1

ea0863 Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 In the 90's, Hot Rod Magazine proudly presented their swimsuit issue each April. This went by the wayside after a while, but in April 2006, HRM put out what IMHO was the sexiest issue in a long time! It began with a retrospective on the '65 Dodge Coronet NASCAR stocker driven by Lee Roy Yarbrough in 1965.
ea0863 Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 Next up was a Kreations Auto Body '70 'Cuda re-kreation. The article had the full build and photos - great stuff to reference for a scale build.
ea0863 Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 Then came an article on builder Bobby Alloway and his Ridler contenders; a couple of '32 Roadsters and a '57 Thunderbird.
ea0863 Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 Fourth up was the Year One '69 Mustang known as "Blackened".
ea0863 Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 And the centerfold for the issue was the incredible Holden Efijy. The article again contained all kinds of photos of this stunner! 1
