Dave B Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Just a couple of pics for those interested in CanAm sports cars. About 18 months ago I cast myself a Matich SR3 and have only just managed to finish it. All parts were either cast or vacformed by me. The real car was a winner down here but not that successful in the Can Am. I am now starting on a couple of Elfin 400 big banger type sports cars, favourites down under during the same period. Decals are from Jens Scale Racing. Dave B
Nick F40 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Wow, I love CanAm and this is beautiful, the color is really sweet. Amazing. The sound and performance of these were incredible, we need race cars like these nowadays.
Jairus Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 BEAUTIFUL! Love that era of CanAm and your rendition is that much extra specal since you scratch built so much of it! Very nice and welcome aboard!
rv1963 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Great work on your CanAm car, nice clean build.
RJWood Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Very nice job of casting and building this CanAm racer. Its a real beauty.
fordsixty Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 WOW. great looking car. one from the small block era. my favorites are the big block cars. looking at the velocity stacks, i would guess the motor to be a Weslake-Ford. any pics without the rear cover? i did a google search and found this picture. looks like you nailed it. outstanding.
Dave B Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks for the comments. Sorry it is just a kerbside but does have rear suspension, transaxle etc. as all are visible as the rear clip is cut away between the wheels. It was powered by a 4.4L Repco V8 Dave B
curt raitz Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Very, very nice... Can Am is my favorite racing series - ever...loved watching and listening to these beasts at Laguna Seca Raceway
Scott Colmer Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Very, Very pretty. Cast that yourself? IMPRESSIVE! Great build. Scott
Draggon Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Wonderful job! You sure did get it right. I, too, loved the Can Am at Laguna Seca, and it is (was) my favorite racing series. So, did you make the mold or did it start out as a slot car body? Either way, it looks great.
ismaelg Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 WOW! That is just amazing. Absolutely beautiful. It captures the soul of the real car. Welcome to the forum. What an entrance! Thanks,
JHDrew Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Very nice work. Hope you become a regular here.
Dave B Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Tks guys, I did back cast it off a Lancer slot car body. I then changed the nose and rear to get the correct tuck under & lengthed it in front of the rear wheel arches to get the correct wheelbase. Then stuck it in silicon. Will post some more builds shortly. Dave B
