redzed Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 anyone use jimmy flintstone resin 32 ford instead of chopping the top on revelle 32 ? probably easier than chopping revelle's 32 ? i have never used any resin parts .......yet.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Buy it = spend money, save time Build it = spend time, save money Comes down to which you have more of.
Mark Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Most resin bodies need to be cleaned up (flashing removed from window areas, feed tags removed). JF bodies are no exception. So there is time involved there. As far as custom work or extensive repairs go, you learn in large part by doing. You won't succeed if you don't try. You could consider doing the chop yourself on the kit body, with purchasing a resin one as "plan B". 1
Oldriginal86 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Personally I would opt for the resin. I have never completed a model that required too much body work. If it means the difference of it setting on the shelf or put back in the box for the distant future, go with the new body. 1
redzed Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 (edited) think i'll go with marks advice-i'll buy the resin as ''plan b'' if i don't use it on this build i will on another- i just ordered it. Edited January 22, 2023 by redzed 2
MeatMan Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Well, here are pics of my first and only chop. It wasn't as hard as you might think, but was a nice test of my skills. Here is a link to my Fotki site with detail on how I did it. https://public.fotki.com/Urban-Poet/32-vic/ As for resin, I've done a few of them and they are no picnic either. You need to be very careful when sanding the stuff as it can cause respiratory issues and there may be work getting it to fit the chassis. I'm not against resin though by any stretch. Whichever you pick, enjoy!

Wish I had seen this sooner and been able to recommend the far superior chopped 3 window from Drag City Casting. Jimmy Flintstone's stuff is fine, but it is mass produced and there isn't always a lot of care taken with the overall quality. I only buy them in person so I can see exactly what I'm getting. Drag City Casting is one of the best out there, and this particular body was mastered by hot rod maestro Dennis Lacy (a member here). Hopefully the body you get from JF is a good one. I will recommend cleaning it thoroughly with a degreaser (don't soak, just wipe down) because the mold release he uses is very strong. After that wash with soap and water and then as a final step wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. 1
restoman Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Another vote for Drag City's chopped body. It's as nice as you'll ever find.
