ModelcarJR Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I have this old kit from a purchase of multiple kits in one lot for a good price. So I took a look at it and noticed that it had some sink marks. So since we had thunderstorms today, I thought it would keep me busy. I puttied up the sink marks on both sides of the front fenders. I also added the front fascia and worked on it to keep the seam but lessen its visibility. I also eliminated the mold line on top of the B pillars and other flash on the windows, wheel openings, etc. I looked at a number of them on the internet and decided that I will go with a two-tone with a silver top and below the trim line and my new favorite color Dark Toreador Metallic in the middle, hood, and bed. Right now, its taking a bath so maybe tomorrow I can get some primer on it. Oh, Yeah, and there's a Trail Bike too! Thanks for looking! ? 2
Mattilacken Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Nice! Have been looking at this kit many times since I love these chevys! Will follow ?
ModelcarJR Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 Thanks, Jeremy and Anton! I appreciate your comments! I painted the body with Tamiya Aluminum today. This way I can tape off the top and bottom and paint the Dark Toreador Metallic over the silver which will provide a good base. I noticed in photos on the internet that the ones with the fascia weren't two-tone for the most part. Those were normally the ones with chrome front bumpers and regular grills. I don't know why the silver decals were include in the kit and there is no regular grill or chrome front bumper. Nonetheless, I am going with a two-tone. I am also playing with the colors in the interior. Three colors may be two many. I may paint the doors and the seats the same color. Thanks for looking! ? 2
ModelcarJR Posted January 27, 2023 Author Posted January 27, 2023 I painted the body and the rest of the parts today. I think the body came out well but the hood needs a little work in the glue seams for the hood scoop. I will try to sand it a bit and add another coat of paint to the hood. I don't know about the bed cover. I might try another color maybe gray or leave it off altogether. I think the interior will work. Not much there to work with. The body turned out to be a nice cinnamon color. Thanks for looking! ? 3
slusher Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Great looking in two tone John' real nice color choices…
ModelcarJR Posted January 28, 2023 Author Posted January 28, 2023 Thanks, Steve, Carl, and Jeremy! I appreciate your comments! Rubbed out the body, repainted the hood, and got all the foil on today. I also repainted the bed cover. It doesn't fit very well so I may just leave it off. I'm going to finish this one up box stock. Thanks for looking! ? 1
ModelcarJR Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 Mocking up this build after assembling the engine and chassis. Still have to finish the interior. I also put the hood in the oven cleaner as I didn't like the way it looked and I may leave off the hood scoop on the next iteration. Here are a few photos, Thanks for looking! ? 2
ModelcarJR Posted January 30, 2023 Author Posted January 30, 2023 This one is done except for re-painting the hood. raining today and maybe the rest of the week so I don't know when I will get the hood done. I added some evergreen strip to the front side of the underhood to keep the hood level. In addition, I added a stick shift from the parts box and made a turn signal lever. I also added mirror foil to the outside mirrors since there was no chrome faces for the mirrors in the kit. The kit also exclude an interior mirror. I let that go as I don't have any extra at the moment. I guess I'll spend the week prepping some kits for paint later. Thanks for looking!
mikemodeler Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 That looks really nice, great choice of colors. It surprises me that none of the resin casters have stepped up and offered stock front ends for this kit to build 78-87 model years.
espo Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Like the flat hood as it gives a cleaner, smoother look. The Choo Choo Customs that this kit is styled after had the add on hood scope that served no real purpose or function.
ModelcarJR Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 Thanks, All! Still waiting for the weather to finish. I also want to put together the motor bike but will wait on the weather.?
