I bought the "old man's"(Donn Yost) DVD and painted this project with Testors enamels,YES TESTORS ENAMELS!!!!

I know it is hard to believe but they worked!!!

Do yourself a favor and buy Donn's DVD,this is my first attempt and it really came out nice.

Well I gotta admit----------I am NOT a fan of Testor's enamels anytime, but that is one super sharp bubbletop you got there!!

The engine detail is excellent also! Especially with black paint, that came out extra nice!

Testor's paints CAN be worked with if one has a good dehydrator-------other than that......you better have a LOT of patience.

Very cool man, color choice is perfect as well as the engine detail. I am not a fan of the Testors enamels either but I guess that with patience any paint job can come out good!!!

I got the DVD, it's pretty neat. He says with the laquer thinner it drys in 2-3 days.

Well, Hillbilly how did it dry? And what brand of thinner did you use?

The black turned out just like he said it would, it looks great.

Big Man,

You have come along way in a very short time and I'm proud of you ! The Belair turned out beautiful. Your paint work on the last 9 or 10 cars has been outstanding . Thanks for the plug on the dvd , but it seems from some of the posts , you are beating the proverbial "dead horse ".

Mr Geary , the next time I use a dehydrator on my paint work will be a first . As for patience ? , I am usually building my cars within a week of their airbrushing , that includes the clear ! ;) Ya'll can rub your fingers to the bone with your laquer and what not , I'll just keep laying out the mirror shine with about a tenth of your efforts .

Mr Cruz , you have probably seen more of my work up close and personal from hanging around Jack Bouman then just about anybody . Every single one of those cars are painted with Testors enamels. The proof sits on the tables , on the website , and the dvd itself . If I can do it , and Jack and John can do it , anybody can do it . It's all about the method . With the cost of the kits these days , one can ill afford to screw up the paint work . I can have a body painted and in clear for a little over $13 , that is pretty good costwise, considering what some are spending for paint .

No , I'm not picking on either one of you , I admire both of you for your considerable skills. I'll see you both at the NNL East , stop over and say Hi in the vending area.

Looks incredible!! Did you use testors enamel clear from the small bottle? My only concern is what do you do if you get a little trash in the paint while your putting on all the coats. You know, some dust gets on it during the painting? Sure would be nice not to have to polish anymore.

That really turned out beautiful! I am not one for black paint jobs, but it looks killer on that body style. Excellent detailing, also! I might have to get Donn's DVD (once I get an airbrush), since I've heard some pretty good testimonials. I'm in the same club as Jack, also, so I guess if he can do it, anybody can!:D

Randy,

Shame on you for picking on that wild haired , four eyed , crazed , midget !

Actually , Jack drove down to Pgh and spent a day and a half in the shop with me when he painted his Frost Blue Jungle Jim funny car. It was cool to watch the light bulb go on as he worked the airbrush. He picked it up real quick ! It's all about the method !

In reality , the dvd is not just for airbrushing , the method can and should be applied to any type of painting , regardless of the material or subject , be it airbrush or rattle can.

I don't find it hard to believe at all, I have used Testors enamels for decades and find them very easy to work with. But whether it's enamel, lacquer or acrylic, black is a pain to get right and I must say that you did an excellent job on the paint!

cool chevy, thats a 409 under the hood?

or live in california.

but a dehydrator is an excellent idea, i use mine all the time and like i say, im in california! still it cuts down a multi week dry time to overnight practically. and they are cheap.
