Here's a first version of the Duel truck front wheel in 3D. It needs to be refined. I think I will use the tires from the AMT PP028 Parts Pack.

Looks promising but the diamond shaped holes needs to be slightly more elongated like on the picture below.
I would like to get a couple of sets when you are done if possible.

Further to my last posts, I think that I read somewhere in the dim distant past that someone else making a Duel model got the right style of wheel from one of AMT's fire engine kits.

Could be wrong, but it might be worth pulling up some pics of fire engine builds and AMT box art to check.

My Thoughts on the Wheel Size Issue.

For What they are worth.

Since this is ultimately about how that model looks when done, I circle back to you comments about finding a wheel/tire combo that "looks" right and fills the fenders of the truck.

If a 1/24th Tire or Wheel is needed, to get the look you want, and has the desired 'correct details' (re: Hole size and shape) then go with the 1/24 pieces.

We as modelers get so caught up in the "1% Question, 1/25 vs 1/24" that we sometimes fail to see how manipulating these scale size differences can work to our advantage. In this case, I think that 1/24 Tires at least may be the solution for the "Filled Fender" conundrum that you are facing. Your 3D printed wheels look good to me.

Here's the second iteration. Wider diamond cutouts, a slightly less dished disc, slightly smaller wall thickness for the disc

Comments are welcome, it helps to have others judge the design.

I will probably make them available later. no worries.

Noel, I read that too. It's likely the AMT American-LaFrance Custom Pumper / Ladder Chief / Aero Chief series of models. What I found showed five-hole wheels, but the holes were D-shaped, and I could not find the size.

Alan, good point! I have the grand total of one European truck model, and will check the tire size later. The AMT PP028 Parts Pack tires that I now plan to use are not that much bigger than the kit tires. But I first have to get those, and have the wheel(s) printed. I expect some to make some changes ?

Those look pretty good to me. I would also be interested in some. I too have been looking for some for quite a while now. Dave used to make some, but his mold got worn out and he quit making them a while before he passed.

Now we're talking, looks a lot better. ?
If you do them the same size as the White Freightliner wheels you can use kit tires and I would need at least a couple of sets myself.

Why the White Freightliner? Does it have special tires? Or is it the kit you need the wheels for?

The White Freightliner and a few other AMT kits has 11.00-22 tires and they are larger than most of the other AMT tires wich are either 10.00-20 or 11.00-20.
So they are what you need if you want to go for 22 inch wheels.

I was planning to get the AMT Parts Pack PP028 that contains the same tires, of at least 11.00-22 tires. The wheels from the White Freightliner don't suit the Duel truck, so that's no reason to build the truck instead of the parts pack. But maybe I'm overlooking something?

It was the rim size for the wheels in the White Freightliner kit I was talking about, not the wheel style, they are for 11.00-22 tires and has a larger diameter than most of the other AMT truck kit rims wich are for 10.00-20 or 11.00-20 tires.
I do have the PP028 and the tires in that pack are pretty much the same as in the white Freightliner kit, but they removed the side wall detail so it has no name, size or other markings on them.

That's interesting, thanks! Now I have to choose between tires with sidewall detail that is generally not visible in photos, or to go for tires without sidewall detail that may looked a bit naked.. Choices, choices...

This seems to be a project on which you are sweating the details. As such, and if you have the means, I suggest going for the tires with detailed sidewalls. Any model, but especially trucks, where the tires are large and exposed, sidewall detail matters. For those modelers who build for realism and authenticity, bare sidewalls just won't cut it. Unfortunately, the stripping of sidewall detail is a travesty that high-end builders have had to navigate around for a couple decades now.
