Cheap primer for the Brits.

Recommended Posts

Are there many Limeys in here?

So, £5 or less for 400ml. This SupaDec grey primer.

Dries smooth, between Tamiya and Halfords and won't eat the styrene.

The white though is a bit coarser when dry, like the Halfords Bodyshop primer.

Halfords primer is very good vaule and available in grey , white, red or black.

Great quality primer.(avoid the "Plastic" primer they sell as that's only suitable for car bumpers combination of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) called PC/ABS) not styrene.

Large can 500ml or smaller can at 300ml.

Forunately Halfords are still trading in ireland (post brexit) and close to me in Cork city on my ruote home from work.

the plastic primer is useful. it helps the other primers stick to bare plastic (some older revell kits and black plastic kits) and it can be used if your paint is a hot one too if you dont want a thick layer of primer. Its not really a primer though, think of it as an adhesion promoter instead

And available from..??

Most non chain/indy hardwear shops.

They sell also a brand called AutoExtreme, costs even less money but the fumes are very noxious and not really worth the stink it produces.

More primer, not so cheap. £10-11 for 500ml.

Colour Forge, a great smooth finish primer for the war figure painters. As good as Tamiya.

And 25 colours to choose from.

Am using here a pale grey and an off white. And this dark blue I plan for a black colour.

Also Autotek for £7. From the Boyes stores in mostly the North East.

They have a great hobby department. Vallejo, Citadel the above Colour Forge and Humbrol paints and various tools.
