Does anyone know if Tamiya makes a Porsche 917K? I really like this car.  I am currently building the Revell/Fujimi kit, and I am finding myself highly disappointed with the quality of the kit. Not what I expected from Revell.

I built the Fujimi and thought it was good but wish it had a complete chassis & powertrain. To get that we have to add a transit of go all out on a Model Factory Hiro.

No, Tamiya didn't.

Well, that's a bummer.  Guess I just won't have a 917K in my collection as I've basically given up on this kit.

The lack of an engine doesn't bother me, but for the life of me I cannot get the body on the chassis.  It's beyond frustrating.  No matter what I do, it will NOT stay together.  It's about to get binned.

Heller / Union has a version too. More engine detail IIRC. I'd have a look, but I've moved all of mine already.

HRM offers an engine package for the Fujimi kit. Not always available, so check sellers like Model Builder's Warehouse frequently. They sell out fast.

If you're serious, I'll gladly take it off your hands. Send me a PM if you want to work something out.

Let me calm down a bit.  I've only been trying for two days to get the rear part of the car on.  I've tried model glue, super glue, epoxy.  Nothing works.  I'm about ready to take a lighter to it & melt the plastic together! ?

Jim...I feel your pain on this one.  Your kit is actually a Fujimi. The rear end will go together...trust me.  Test fit and do a little at a time. I have a liquid glue from MicroMark called  Same Stuff.  Hold the part together and apply a small drop with a brush and let it sink in.  Its wickedly strong and will  do even painted parts.  Chrome and paint normally have to be scraped away before plastic will meld together, Not with this stuff.  Its my  "go to" for those tough jobs.   Mostly I use Tamiya think and thin  liquid.  Here is a link to my build http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/175835-porsche-917-lemans-1970-winner/#comment-2640900   Hope it helps

I built the Fujimi kit a few years ago and mostly enjoyed it. It’s not too bad, given it’s age, but it’s certainly not a Tamiya kit. Heller made a 917K that’s supposed to be pretty difficult to build. The Fujimi body was fiddly to fit to the chassis and I ended up having to clamp it while the glue dried. I seem to remember the spare tire causing some interference with the body. I also never got the side windows to fit quite right.

Thanks for all the input & encouragement.  I've set this kit aside & am working on another kit.  Hopefully with a "brake" I'll take it back out again & work on it with a fresh attitude.

I'm building that kit. I much prefer it over the Fujimi 917, since its shape is far more accurate. The whole front end (bulkhead forward) of the Fujimi kit is ~4 mm too wide. The Heller kit got that right, showing how small and narrow the cockpit was. My model is in the primer stage.

However, the Heller kit is not so easy to build. It's got very fine detail parts, that are difficult to assemble, it's all very fiddly. Take the rear chassis frame, to which I added the white parts. With the engine installed, the engine cover won't close. I think the engine sits too high, because of a 'cross' in the bottom side of the chassis frame, that shouldn't be there. The engine itself is a bit simple, just what you can expect from an early seventies model.

Beautiful 917.  You're a better man than I.
