Repstock Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I'm going to build a Dodge cabover similar to the truck pictured. I know it's available in resin, but that's part of the challenge. I have references that show in detail everything but the roof. Were there any seams or rivets up there? Whatever detail is on the roof, I'd like to reproduce it. I've got enough to get started, but I'd like that roof info if I can get it. Thanks! 1
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) There is a vent under the raised section similar to what is on the side of the sleeper. Edited May 23, 2023 by DRIPTROIT 71
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 I used to have a lot of reference pictures from where I built mine. I will have to look tomorrow. Are you building a daycab?
Repstock Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 That is very, very helpful. Thank You! If you have more, that would be great, but this is a great help!!! Got any pics of the one you built? My cab will include the sleeper.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 I will check tomorrow for more pictures. My cab was made by Back Yard Shed. I modified the rear of the cab to be more like the 1:1 and allow the breather to be under the cab like my reference truck. You probably already know this, but these were L series trucks. LN 1000 single axle, inline diesel LV 1000 single axle, v configuration diesel LNT 1000 Tandem drive, inline diesel LVT 1000 Tandem drive, v configuration diesel Here’s the one that I built several years ago. 2
Repstock Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 I like it! Hopefully my effort will be presentable.
Mopar - D Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) Tom looking forward to seeing you build your Dodge. I’ve built a couple of the sleepers and one day cab. What are you going to use for your donor? I sent you a PM. Edited May 23, 2023 by Mopar - D

DRIPTROIT 71 Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Here is a little bit of a top view, but it is distant. You probably have some of these, but here are some under cab shots. You can see the rear of the cab sits in the middle where a daycab would end. Everything else that I have is probably the same or less than you have. If you are looking for anything else, let me know.
Repstock Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 I've got a start on the project. Here's where I am thus far... 7
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 I knew this would be good! It looks like an Awesome start. Looking forward to seeing more!
Rockford Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 Very tidy job you've made of that. It's going to look great. It's a very rewarding thing making something from scratch isn't it?
leafsprings Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 Excellent work! Great subject. These heavy Dodge trucks went away much too soon.
cifenet Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 Wow, it is like looking at a technical drawing. Amazing attempt and a great result so far! I wonder how you would address the round edge of the cab. I suppose the cab looks very boxy, it may not be an issue.
Repstock Posted June 3, 2023 Author Posted June 3, 2023 (edited) It's starting to look like a cab now. Progress continues. Window frames should straighten out when glass is installed. Rivets look a little large...I used them on a Freightliner and it looked fine. I'll work with them after they're all installed. Edited June 3, 2023 by Repstock 2
Dave Van Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Very nice work!!! I do not have the skill ...wish we had a kit!!!! Why does 'Crackerbox palace' keep running in my mind!
Repstock Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 I managed to knock over a bottle of Testor's liquid cement, and some got on the model. I'll need to let it dry before I assess any damage. Darn.
cifenet Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Fantastic work you got going and great job with rivets. I hope the damage isn’t extensive, but I know how these things happen and we all need to regroup and push forward.
Repstock Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 Just to let you know, Testor's cement will take the yellow printing right off a cutting mat.
Rockford Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 But how's the cab? Did it survive ok? It is such a work of art that you did there I'd hate to see it damaged.
Repstock Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 Cab is repaired, and the balance of the rivets have been added. I wish I could have made them a bit smaller, but this is as small as I could get and still work with them. I'll sand everything a bit when they dry. 6
