Jay Whittaker Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 How about a short, running piece entitled “Model Stuff Is Everywhere!”? I’m not suggesting anything long and drawn out, but rather a partial-page snippet, a monthly (per sè) tip about something found out in the great wide world that makes for great detailing in our scale world. For Example: “Utilizing the individual zipper teeth from a worn-out pair of jeans make for perfect battery terminal ends. Simply pluck them out of the fabric with a pair of needle nose pliers, drill a receiving hole for the battery cable, and attach to the battery terminals.”… Submit a couple of pictures, one from the source, and one showing it in the build it was used on… Just a little something interesting that should catch attention, and help modelers along. Just a thought, and any thoughts for or against are welcome. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Sounds like a great idea to me...maybe pinned under "Tips and Tricks". PS. I'm off to rip some zippers out of old shredded work pants. 1
peteski Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I seem to recall that one of the model car magazines (maybe SAE?) had a regular column which showed this kind of handy tips. Often it has pencil drawings of the procedures. I don't have a SAE issue handy to check. 1

They even sent me the original artwork from the articles using my tips. 1

bobthehobbyguy Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Great idea on the tips. Have a pinned thread on the forum and then pick a few of the best to use in the magazine. Something along the lines of the forum finds in the magazine. 1
peteski Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Do we really need another pinned thread on In the Tips section? It wouldn't be here as this is a discussion about the magazine, not scouting for contents 1

Jay Whittaker Posted June 26, 2023 Author Posted June 26, 2023 Some great points have been brought forth on this, has any of the magazine staff piped-in? Asking as I'm not familiar with who's who.
Dave Ambrose Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 I'm the managing editor, and I've been watching this topic Thank you all for commenting. I'm totally going to steal the zipper idea. ? This forum contains a huge body of knowledge, but it's poorly organized. The built-in search function isn't nearly as effective as we'd like. There is a solution for the search problem, and I'm looking at implementing that. Another possibility is a single pinned and maintained post that gives us a directory of particularly good topics. Or, we could put something like that up on our web site. Putting these in the magazine is an attractive idea, but we need to increase the page count before we consider running it as a regular feature. Could happen intermittently though. As always, we welcome your comments. 1 2
