Did you just get lucky with old decals still working well, or is there some trick with hot water that I’m unaware of? Thank you! It's not so much a trick as in my experience older decals need hot water in order to safely and fully release off the backing paper, otherwise you get the cracking and tearing. Usually when I'm doing decals, I get a fresh tupperware container of hot water from my Keurig and only handle the decals with tweezers in order to prevent scalded fingers. 6 hours ago, rrb124@sbcglobal.net said: Wonderful Ferrari. 20 yrs ago I built the Fujimi GT. Didn't know about the GTS kit. Imo, GTS is a better looking car. Please tell, doesn't your kit come with the clear covered headlights piece? The kit does indeed come with the headlight covers though I doubt I will use them because my reference pictures show the car not wearing the covers. 2

Justin Porter
The interior is continuing right along for the Dino 246GTS. A combination of Mr Color Flat Black, Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow, and XF-57 Buff coupled with Ken's Fuzzi Fur black flocking for the carpets finished off what's already inherently a very nicely detailed kit interior. Next up will be the trickiest part of the kit; installing the driveline and assembling the rear framework and suspension.

ea0863
Looking stunning, and I'm liking the "over-restored" thing.
Justin Porter
New update on the Dino. While they're not yet attached, the Dino is up on all four wheels and actually sits true. That alone is a relief. I've also begun addressing the bodywork with a few hits of flat black as a guide coat for some of the most prevalent mold lines plus the much feared buttress seam. It's really starting to come together now.
Justin Porter
Small but critical update. I took the time last night to assemble the PE grille for the Dino. I will definitely say this, the fit for the Studio 27 set was MUCH better than the fit of the factory Gunze Sangyo parts on my 250GT SWB build.
Rich Chernosky
That looks great Justin. I have done this myself and know how painstaking it is. PE can be tough to master but you did it.
dino246gt
Man that grille looks fantastic as does the Dino!!!
beeRS
I like that grill! With regards to the body, I found lots of sink marks to deal with on my kit, especially on the rear panel between the taillights.
DiscoRover007
That PE looks fantastic. Something to keep in mind though, I believe the bumper is attached to the front end as one piece. I know there is a chrome trim that pretty much covers the seam but it might be worth puttying and smoothing over.

My plan is to fill the gap with CA - specifically AK Interactive Black Widow CA - which will also strengthen the joint which will be put under considerable strain when it's finally time to push the chassis into the body permanently. Justin Porter
Big moment for the build of my Fujimi 1/24 Dino 246GTS Spyder. After laying down a basecoat of Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal, I finally airbrushed the color coat of Gunze Mr Color C57 Metallic Blue Green, giving me the Pino Verde that I wanted for this build. I'm seriously pleased with how the color turned out!

I think this thread is fascinating as I do not recall seeing the Fujimi Enthusiast series kits previously being presented in a build thread done in this level of detail. And as someone who appreciates seeing paint detailing used to enhance kit-based builds, I find your efforts here to be of great interest. Finally, seeing you do this level of work, for me, greatly enhances the credibility of your posts on new kits in the kit review section, and personally I do not know of any other hobby shop owners who are capable of achieving this level of results from automotive model kits. Best of luck on finishing this one up and keep up the great work! TIM

Best of luck on finishing this one up and keep up the great work! TIM Thank you kindly Tim. For me, building is very much part of the business. Being able to recommend products for purposes, or to help customers troubleshoot what issues they're having, or to give them a head's up on an issue or tricky spot with a kit has a direct knock-on effect on my register. I love to build, and I love modeling as a hobby, but more than that I've found that few sales tools are quite as valuable as having a nicely turned out model in the display case that I can point to and say "Well, if you're considering that product, here's the results I got with it and here's the quirks to using it." Justin Porter
Very small but fun update on the Dino. First, I gave it its clearcoat. I decided to go with Alclad Aqua Gloss which I've had good luck with in the past and it really seems to have drawn out the shine here. Secondly, a quick spate of masking, and a hit of AK Extreme Metal Chrome gave me the window and windshield trim. Also, while not pictured, the windshield in the kit was pretty hazy - which I blame Testors for - so it got a quick polish with Novus to knock out most of the cloudiness. Looks very good so far, but why appears the windshieldframe black on the second photo? Is this a primer?

Yes it is, or more specifically a gloss black basecoat for the AK. It's a similar paint to Alclad except enamel based rather than alcohol like Alclad. I tend to use it more often than Alclad because I find it a bit more durable and I like the tones of their various metal shades.
Rich Chernosky
Justin...just gotta luv those AK Extreme Metal finishes. I got em all and use them extensively. Your window trim turned out great. Do you use the Mr Color Leveling thinner with them when you spray? Really liking this WIP...so much so that I pulled my two kits out and sorted all the parts.

Genuinely hope to see how your Dinos go together. I honestly spray the Extreme Metal straight from the jar, no thinning, at about 15psi. Airbrush of choice is an Iwata Neo with a .35mm needle.
