disconovaman Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 It's more of a question really... or 2 actually. The topic came up at our local club meet today and a few of the old cats in the club say it was never reissued after 71 but the scalemates history website says reissued in 1994. Sooooo.... Was it in fact reissued in 94? (Does anyone remember buying the kit retail in 94?), will it ever be re-issued agian? Another question would be since it's an old Monogram tool, did Atlantis get the tool or is it lost forever? This thread can easily become a review if anyone has an original or can share the oddities of the kit. If Atlantis aquired the tools it would be cool to see it get reissued. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/monogram-7543-muscle-bug--1151418 1
Can-Con Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) It was reissued in '74 according to the Dave's Showrod Rallye page on the kit. It doesn't mention any later reissues. Don't believe it was reissued after that. Anyone can go on Scalemates and edit the content. Heck, I could go on there and say it was reissued in 2020 in purple and green swirl plastic complete with resin figures of Tom Daniel and Mickey Mouse and no one would correct it and it would be repeated all over the internet for the next 50 years as truth. ? http://www.showrods.com/showrod_pages/muscle_bug.html Edited July 30, 2023 by Can-Con 1 1

There's a double entry of the kit which both say 1974. Unless someone went in there and edited it since this thread started 7 hours ago. As for the kit it wouldn't surprise me if Atlantis has it, and the only way it would reappear is if Atlantis has it since they have the Tom Daniel license.
Force Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Scalemates is a good idea and a decent source for information but it's not correct all the time. The timelines for kits has lots to desire as they can be very wrong sometimes because some kits that should be there aren't and some kits that shouldn't are, if you have a decent knowledge of the history of the kits yourself you see incorrect things here and there. I even tried to get a timeline corrected once. It was for the Revell Germany Kenworth W900/T900 kits wich have three different timelines there, one for the 1:25th scale marked kits, one for the T900 and one for kits marked 1:24th scale, but all of them should be on the same timeline as all are based on the same tooling with some added stuff and regardless what the box says all are 1:25th scale as Revell didn't do two different scales so close to eachother of the same subject, but nothing ever happened so I gave up.
tim boyd Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 All excellent reasons to take anything unusual that you read on ScaleMates with a very big grain of salt and always look to validate their info by comparison/reference to other sources of historical kit info that we have found to be generally reliable....TB PS: Hakan - thanks for the info on the Revell Kenworth kits....have always wondered about that...TB 2

Expand That was definitely changed since I had looked at it James. It did say 1994, not '74 and the kits with the Rolls custom Beetle weren't even on the page. 1

Expand Actually, I thought about trying to email and let them know too. As I gain more information I suspect this was a typo, it seems instead of 1974 they put 1994. Thanks for the info, I think I'll just let it be... ?
Fabrux Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I am an avid contributor to Scalemates and try to add in information and correct errors when I see them. This is a feature of that website, not a bug! ? 1

I remember it being at K-mart or Roses back in the day for like $12.95, which was about 4 times the price of the regular kits. and thanks for being in touch with Atlantis, that gets the ball rolling and gets it on their radar for sure...
Mr mopar Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I would like to show you all the contends but it's buried in my stash but this should help ! MONOGRAM Smug Bug 1/16 scale #6659 album | DRASTIC PLASTICS MODEL CAR CLUB | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy. 1
