smartdriver Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 (edited) Hello Mates, to calm down from the Tiredesaster on my big challenge >> So it looks in real The kits lying here since last Year, at first i want to go with big Scale carrera Slotcars but the carreras have not much in common with the real ones, especially the Benz, i think the Designer smoke somthing other than Tobacco....see yourself...... So i go with the GB/Touchwood Models. This are resin, very well detailed and smooth. need only minorchanges to accept the Pilotfigures. Here the Auto Union Type C " Stromlinie" aka Streamliner , the Cutouts in the fenders are a bit too big, lets see how i can change this. Also on the real car there was somthing like glass over them. and the Mercedes Benz W25 " Stromlinie" aka Streamliner And thats the Plan, using CH Kreative real stonemats in 2 differentt Size/Shades ? Anglia105E Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I have not heard of Touchwood Models, Harald . . . This is going to be an exciting project of yours ! The 43° incline of the track is quite something. I shall be following your progress with interest . . . David 1
smartdriver Posted August 12, 2023 Author Posted August 12, 2023 Hi David, they produce the former GB Model Line https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION[]=All&q=touchwood Regards Harry
smartdriver Posted August 12, 2023 Author Posted August 12, 2023 The first Cuts and modifications done to place a Figure in the Cockpits. On the Auto Union i was a simple Trick, move the Dashboard ca. 1,5 mm forward, and then the Arms of the Figure must be more bend. Yes this is right, in those Days the Drivers sit very near to the Steeringwheels. On the mercedes it was a bit more Work. The Headrest is a bit too wide on the Body so i sand it down , about 1mm. Then i cut off the Pad from the Seat and flue it directly on the Headrest. The Seat it self was molded too far forward and too high. So i cut it from the Floorpan, sand it down to reduce the High and go a bit Backward to sit flusch with the Headrest. And i sanded the edges of the Wheelcover to a more rounded Shape. They were molded with a hefty Edge. The Rear Covers i will scratchbuild. Well i know what someone say "thats not correct for Langs Car...." in the Trainingssessions they drive with all, without, with Covers only at Front or Back , so i go with all covered.I like the look much better, with these Covers the Car looks real brutal and monstrous, even in Comparsion to the UFOlike Autounion. Regards Harry PS i think i found Help for the Mille Miglia Desaster, 3D Print will help.....
TonyK Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Interesting project you've got here and your talent is already showing it will be great when finished. 1
smartdriver Posted August 30, 2023 Author Posted August 30, 2023 Hello mates, the unbelievabel Heatis over here in Vienna, so i made a small Update on this project. First the kit design requires the dashboard to be glued into the body. This makes fitting a figure almost impossible. So I made something like a subframe for it, glued Seat and the Dashboard on the Floorpan, like the one on the Auto Union. Then i scratched the Rearwheelcovers from Plasticard and "Pimp up" the front Ones with Plasticard and a "Bit" of mr. White Putty ? Sand and polish 'em , glued in Place and putty the not perfect fit again. Also sand down the way too Big "Nuts" on the Wings and the Headrest. And Putty in the Way to big Tire-Watch-Holes in the Auto union, now i have to wait until all is dried and hard to sand. So i think about the Base.
Pierre Rivard Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Wonderful project Harald. I love what you have done with the 31 MM diorama and will follow this one with great interest. Just looking at these cars we can feel the danger of running them at these extreme speeds. 1
1959scudetto Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Super project, Harald (bin schon gespannt, wie es weitergeht) - but the race was in 1937: grueling with that high banked curve without any guardrail on top!

Yes, i know, Hashtag is the right one, but i can't change the Topictitle !
smartdriver Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 Hello, get Plan for the Base finished. After a Week of Filling an Sanding , i use somr Plasticard . And after drilling and filing the Holes out, sand it again flush with the Auto Union Body . Then the first Paint, Alclad Aluminium Dark, for the Insides and Cockpits. #avus1937 A bit of fine Sanding on the Outsidr an then i try Gravity Colors "Alcoa" Paint. Regards Harry
smartdriver Posted September 13, 2023 Author Posted September 13, 2023 nd again to much work for Things that nobody ever see.....Figures and some Decals for the Dashboards, also the Alumium turned Brakedrums from the kits are nearly invisible.........the Exhaustclusters for the Auto Union build new with Brasstube, 1mm "Fat"....? #avus1937 Bernd Rosemeyer on the Wheel of the Auto Union and Herrmann Lang in his W25 ? Bodies on thr Chassis and noby see the Details of the Cockpits..... This is the Kitpart for the Auto Union Exhaustclusters , no Chance to drill 'em out so i build 'em new with Brasstube....
Pierre Rivard Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 Care look good. Look forward to the diorama work. Will it be a portion of the track and include the MB tower as seen in the artist drawing? 1
smartdriver Posted September 18, 2023 Author Posted September 18, 2023 At First Thanks ! In my first Post i have a Plan how it would look. And no, that is way too big, here is a Pic how this looks in Real. The Mercedes Tower stand on the curve exit, where the Curve is going flat. I want the Peak of the Curve and more like a sculpture, a bit like the one that stands in Berlin where once the track was. http://www.eautobahn.de/assets/images/A115_AVUS_Nordkurve_Autobahn_Rennbahn_sw.jpg and thats the Sculpture https://www.alamy.de/stockfoto-berlin-westend-bronze-skulptur-von-zwei-motorrad-fahrer-denkmal-fur-motorradfahrer-neben-historischen-avus-motor-track-jetzt-die-autobahn-a115-avus-173513330.html?imageid=81990E91-5589-45E7-807D-BD4DFEC6B68C&p=158544&pn=2&searchId=7469e514ee7441bd242f273a0389d5f8&searchtype=0 And btw in 1937 there was instead of the MB Star a big German Swastika Flag......
Bainford Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Fantastic project. Looking forward to watching this come together.
TarheelRick Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Amazing work in such a small scale. Too bad so much of the interior detail work will never be seen, but you know it is there. You said in your initial post the holes in the fenders had some sort of glass over them, considering their locations were they there to inspect possible tire wear? Really looking forward to updates.
smartdriver Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 Hello mates, after a long vacation from Bergamao, Model Exhibition, to Mulhouse and Eindhoven Scale Model Challenge, iam back on it.....and made a mess of the Carbodies....Paint 'em, see every Scratch, every small imperfection. i tried , as so often, to remove the Paint with Alcohol.....and the Resin reacted, get very soft and weak. So i get 2 new ones  and the new Bodies, on the MB the Cockpit is a bit out of Shape, i would build it new out of Alufoil or such

Hi, yes this where to watch Tirewear.
Pierre Rivard Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Wow, never seen such extreme reaction to stripping of paint. How unfortunate. A lot a work ahead but fortunately you could find new bodies. The road to success is not always a straight line, just like in racing. Best success going forward on this fantastic project. 1
smartdriver Posted January 1, 2024 Author Posted January 1, 2024 Hello and a happy new Year to All ! The new Year began with a little Progress on this Dio. Got the Parts for the Base, Screw and Glue 'em togheteher. Now waiting für the Glue to be really dry.
smartdriver Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 First Testshot, while the Glue dries....... 1
Mark Horton Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Looks great so far . It would be great to get in a Time Machine and go back to the races as it looks so amazing . I did dioramas ( tanks and planes ) as a kid , and just got on to this as I was looking at buying a little plaque from the 1933 Avis rennen . 1
smartdriver Posted January 18, 2024 Author Posted January 18, 2024 Yesterday it was plain white Kapaline, today all Bricks are glued on........now i understand what what the workers did in 1936/37, and they didn't have the brick mats from CH Creative ( https://shop1.ch-kreativ.eu/de/ ), a little bit of joint compound and it's good.
IanH Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 This is something quite different, like it a lot. 1
smartdriver Posted January 20, 2024 Author Posted January 20, 2024 Yesterday I was able to apply the joint compound and paint the 2 white lines with oil colored pencils.I think it looks mostly like the real one ? A little bit Weathering and its finished. The Tamiya Tape on the Autounion is a Help to get the Holes in the Fenders right.
Pierre Rivard Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 The brick track surface looks very convincing. What products did you use for the joints and weathering? 1
