Jon Haigwood Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Just received my first 3D printed body, I am a bit surprised at the quality (or lack of it). Is this what results that are normally achieved. This may be a challenge that I may not even start. extra tail ight, no body lines, molded in mirrors, no driving light openings, molded in side pipes. This body may vary well end up in the "whish I would have looked somewhere else" box.
bobthehobbyguy Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 That is complete trash. I have never seen a 3d printed body that looked that horrible. I'd request a refund. If you can't get one file a dispute with your credit card company or PayPal depending how you paid. 2

Pierre Rivard Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I think I saw this one on eBay. Not much about it looks like it should. It would be big commitment to make it work...
peteski Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Just like with resin cast items, depending on the CAD drawing of the model and on what type of a printer was used to produce the item, there is a wide range of quality and fidelity out there. Some look even worse than this "thing", while others are almost indistinguishable from injection-molded parts. Don't be discouraged by this single bad example - do some research, ask around (even here), and then decide which 3D items to buy and be happy with them. Also educate yourself about 3D printing technology so you will know the difference for example between a filament printer, and a SLA printer. That way you can ask the seller questions before jumping in and buying something. 1

One of our club members has been 3D printing some drag racing bodies and the looked a lot better, but I don't think I can convince him to do a Daytona.
MeatMan Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 That looks like a free file available on Cults that I downloaded myself. I've read where people sell prints of free files, which usually aren't high quality. Here it is in my slicer. 1
