BDSchindler Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I'm working on a 78 Corvette Pace Car (1/24th Revell Germany) and I have a plan for the red pinstripe that encircles the body. I don't want to use the decals in it as so far, I am not too happy with the kit in general. Nothing fits correctly. When I tried using the red trim decals for the wheels, it was a fiasco. First wheel went "ok" but the decal for the next one fragmented and I ended up just hand painting the red wheel stripe. So I do not want to use the decals. I trust nothing on this kit So for the body, my plan is to spray the red for the pinstripe...let it cure then mask off the pinstripe and paint the lower body silver...then mask that off and paint the black upper body and use 2K clear. I'm using Splash Paints. But I need to find 1/64th" tape...I have 1/16th" but its too wide. 1/32nd is still too wide so if I can locate 1/64th", that will work. All help is appreciated
stitchdup Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 youjust need a steel ruler and a sharp blade. if you did manage to find it that narrow it would be expensive when you can just make your own for pennies and as long as you have decent tape you can get any width you want anytime 2
Jack L Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 line o tape makes 1/64 pin stripe tape ck Amazon

RancheroSteve Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 1 hour ago, Jack L said: line o tape makes 1/64 pin stripe tape ck Amazon How flexible is that tape - can you make small radius curves with it? I used Chartpak crepe tape to recently pinstripe a model I'm working on, but the narrowest I could find was 1/32", so I had to slice it in half. www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/183432-winged-express/
Jack L Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 The roll I have I used it for straight lines . I just tried to use it but the glue is dried up . but it is 15-20 years old . I got some black last year but it is sealed up.

I'll attempt it with Tamiya tape.
Chariots of Fire Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Not sure if Chart Pak is still in business but they had all sorts of colors in widths down to 1/64. Check also for model aircraft striping tape. I got a package of variable stripe widths in green and gold. Went around pretty sharp corners with no problem. I used it on this model of a Seagrave aerial. 1
Hi-Po Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 I have used line o tape masking tape for years with good results. You should be able to make small radius curves with the 1/64 width with no problems. If you order directly from line o tape, the tape should be fresh and the adhesive intact. 1
rattle can man Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 there are sheets of stripes made for Model Railroading that might be useful if you want to try another option for decals. not sure how they would work for curved lines though
