ADAM-12 used - as you'd mentioned - 1966/1967 Belvederes (first , short , season), 1968-1970 Belvederes, 1971 Satellite, then a 1972 Matador (until series' end in 1975) . LAPD (and LASD) used the mid-sized cars (and sometimes compacts) ; full-sized were 'reserved' for the fledgling state agencies (until 1975, 1976 when the CHP started downsizing its fleet to the B-body Monaco / Fury, still with 440 power) . Heck, a 1975-1978 Nova 9C1 would be the bee's knees ! LAPD used Mercury Montegos in 1970.
Motor City Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Dearborn used some Lincolns. A Mark VI would be cool ... The Dearborn Police from the 1970s until Present – Dearborn Historical Museum (thedhm.org)

Those were Montereys. LAPD used the mid-sized Montego with a 351C-4V. I have no idea why Webb had the boys continue to drive the '69 Belvedere in 1970, unless he had an issue with Ford or something.
Edsel-Dan Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Did LAPD actually use that Mechanical siren by then?? I do know they used the Mercury then as we do see a few on Adam-12. But we also see the 70 Coronet, and LAPD did not use that one. Dragnet showed Fullsize Fords or Dodge Coronets for the 4 years they ran. In fact, Friday & Gannon used a '67 Ford Custom as the Homicide 'Call Car' when the Motor Officer was shot I don't think there was any reason they kept the 69 Belvedere for the third season other than it being ready Remember, They did only go with a Single year for a car twice in the 7 seasons. First year only for the 68 Belvedere, and Fourth year for the 71 Satellite. The Matador was used for the 5th, 6th and 7th seasons, while the 67 was used in the Pilot only but seen in ONE scene later during the first season (That likely being filmed FOR the pilot but only used later--Look who the Culprits are!!) I LOVE adam-12, and Know Everything about those Cruisers!! Only the 67 Plymouth and the Matador ever show the Badges & Script of the car--(look at how much silver Duct tape you see on other cars during the series. Even a Criss-Craft Boat has its name covered in one episode 2

They were unliked by most Patrolman. A 429 V-8, Manuel steering, Manuel brakes, nose heavy, and one slipped through with a/c. There is a story where complete dash fell into the laps of two officers. So the LAPD ask Jack Webb not to use a Montego. You do see them as back ground and back up cars but never a hero car. The CHP had problems with the Monterey’s. Good on paper but problems on the road. Like transmission cases cracking at the bell housing, breaking motor mounts, and wheel centers cracking around the lugs. They were the cheaper bid and only on year only cars for the LAPD and CHP. 1
Chuck Most Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Other than the rocker panels needed a little bit of massaging to fit, couldn't be happier with how the kit builds up and looks. Yes, I didn't notice the thumb prints and smudges until after I'd taken the photos. That's a me problem, not a kit problem. ? 6
