hedotwo Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I was able to pick this up really cheap ($15) over the weekend and I've disassembled it and tossed the primered body into the pond. After looking online I'm confused as to what it might be, other than the obvious Johan chassis I'm not sure if it's resin or plastic. No warp whatsoever, glossy black interior, perfect glass, bumpers and tires/wheels. If it's a Johan promo from '58 were the bodies done in a darkish blue? The chassis is. The body to me is thicker than normal. Not sure how it would ever warp. I pulled it out of the Super Clean and rinsed just in case. Thanks!
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Definitely Johan promo tooling (not resin), possibly an X-EL styrene repop kit thereof, which I'd suspect judging from the perfect looking, bagged chrome, and the un-warped body. https://www.spotlighthobbies.com/all-products/promos/18242/jo-han-x-el-1958-cadillac-fleetwood-4-door-hardtop-promo/ An original promo would be acetate, probably badly warped by now. Here's an original. Edited November 7, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy 1

Definitely thick styrene, so I was guessing it wouldn't be an original Johan. Anyway, I can make a nice stock Fleetwood from it.
Mark Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Plastic pins securing the chassis plate = definite X-EL. $15 is a great deal, maybe think about picking up a lottery ticket--

StevenGuthmiller Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Yes, almost definitely an X-EL model. Many of these were molded in color. Mine was molded in light pink. By the way, $15.00 is an absolute steal!!! Steve Edited November 7, 2023 by StevenGuthmiller
