If I ever did one of those, I'd probably extend the Piranha chassis at the back, and move the pivot point back to let the body lift up higher. Too, I'd probably want some sort of interior "tin" in the body, and maybe some other touches to make the thing more integrated overall. I extended the frame rails to a point and made a tube go across and it will mate to small tubes attached to the body sides similar to how the awb comet body is mounted Great job! The "Mr. Speed" built on the Piranha chassis had the chopped top, and the roll pan style front end also. The "Mr. Speed" was rereleased with the double blower set up, but I'm not sure as of when. Yours looks pretty cool with the bumper on the front though. Edited January 5, 2024 by Jimmy Wilson proof reading 1

Mark Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 The window piece for the chopped top doesn't fit particularly well, especially at the back.
Mr. Metallic Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 Figured I'd drop this recently completed restoration in here. I obtained a small group of models from my father in law shortly before he passed away 6 years ago. All were builtups from his young adulthood in the late 60's/early 70's. They had not survived their storage well, and it took me some time sorting through them all to see if any were complete. The easiest one was a 71 Mustang that I was able to buff out and give to his son the Christmas after he passed. I sorted the rest as best I could and they have been sitting in a tote ever since. Fast forward to recently when I developed an affinity for the series of "gasser" AWB kits from AMT, many of which have now been reissued (most recently the 64 Olds convertible Streaker). When I remembered that one of my father in laws builds was a Mustang from that series I decided to dig it out and restore it. Here is what I started with. Note the racing stripe made from flocking for some reason along with other flocked details. Due to a few issues with what I started with I decided to build it as if he was still here and I was going to give it to him all shiny and new like the day he built it. So I sourced new chrome bits for the body and injector stacks, but kept his engine wiring (done with thread) and the unique interior carpeting. I even used Testors enamels for the body to keep the old school feel. 8

A recent eBay find is one of the original Stude funny cars, built. As I suspected, the pivot point for the body is too far forward, so much on mine that the builder left the rear bumper off. No pictures right now, as both front wheels and one rear were broken off (that's how it was listed), and the original builder swapped the plastic slicks for a pair of way-too-narrow early Trophy Series units. I've got to reattach the wheels (fortunately the king pins on the front axle aren't busted off) and get a pair of wider slicks back on the thing. I've also got to cut down a set of headers from the 3-in-1 Stude and put them on (the original builder didn't get around to that). The paint job on it ain't bad, and the builder did a decent job on chopping the top with the kit-supplied parts. 4

I couldn't find any decals at the time but I think they satisfied my craving for now Soooooooooooooooooooooooo bitchin! 1 1
bobss396 Posted March 25 Posted March 25 This was a pile of work to get it looking good. It took a 2nd place at a show this past weekend. I still have the Mustang to finish up and Falcon from the combo kit still in the box. 3

stavanzer Posted April 9 Posted April 9 If I install a Blower on the 427 in the Rat Packer Nova, What class would it move into? I don't really like the Injectors, so I found a blower to use instead. Thanks.
Hondamatic Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Shifted the front axle on this one so it'll look a little better 4

According to the 1965 and 1966 NHRA rules, adding a supercharger (not manufacturer/factory available equipment) would automatically advance a Factory Experimental (FX) class car to the Gas Coupe/Sedan class. A supercharged 427-equipped FX car went from A/FX to A/GS (‘65) and AA/G (‘66). Edited April 13 by blizzy63 1
stavanzer Posted April 11 Posted April 11 That is exactly what I wanted to know. Thank You very much!

Note that in 1967 the FX class was replaced with the Experimental Stock Division (XS). All supercharged cars in this division ran as S/XS. For your model, you’ll need to decide what racing year it represents.
Mark Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Gas class cars could not have altered wheelbase. That would move the car to Altered class.
stavanzer Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I'll chose to run it as an A/G car. Again, Thanks for the Help!

bobss396 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 How does the Moebius Chevy II kit stack up against the AMT kits? I'd hope they go together better than the AMT ones.
