ewetwo Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Wow. Glad you and your family are ok Ron. I had the gas company come to my house one time because the gas pilot light kept going out. So they installed a new electronic igniter unit. The old unit had a small gas line run into the furnace. They cut it and bent the end over I guess thinking that would stop the gas. A couple of days later I went to go into the basement and I smelled gas. Call the gas company up and reported it. The repair guys came and argued with me saying there was no gas in the basement. But I insisted there was. Finally they got this instrument out and started walking around the basement and sure enough. Where they crimped the end of the old pilot line. There was gas coming out. That's when I noticed a shut off valve in the line and shut it. Same thing happened outside the house. I called complaining I smelled gas in the front yard of the house. They poo posed it then they found the meter was leaking. Always follow you instincts and stick to them until things are rectified. 1

Most kids don't like basements (see furnace in "A Christmas Story") Smoke detectors are a chore like they used to be with 10 year batteries but they do expire in seven years and they will let you know that. greg By Illinois law the 50+ housing we live in (4 triplex units) installed all new 10 year smoke/o2 detectors. 8 of those now sit deactivated in the maintainence room because they were going off at all hours day and night for no reason! The maint. guy put new battery units back in and still has not gotten a response from Kidde on what the deal is. I just changed batteries in ours with the time change. Heard other people with the same issues with other brands! Sent one 90 year old lady to the hospital when her's went off at 3am and about scared her to death!

Moved it 3 ft and it worked fine
GLMFAA1 Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Ironically yesterday my detector in my office room which is also my dog's crate residence went off early morning. My dog does not tolerate the beeping detectors very well. At six a.m. I'm in my pj's on a ladder and changing the battery. Interesting the 10 year energizer rabbit is now only has five years of life. When the beeping starts for low battery the first thing I do is take my leaf blower and attack the detector to make sure it is not just dirt. greg
Brudda Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Good job on checking on them. I have a buddy going thru the same thing. His dad is 80’s something and very stubborn. Mom the same way. He was asking about the bills being paid and the parents got very defensive. Anyway they did need help . They forgot some payments like power and other things. They have millions of dollars, so money is not the issue. They’re old and forget and do not want help. So my friend had to step in and fix things. Depends on the situation, but he did not give up. The point is, sometimes it’s tough trying to do the right thing. Great job and very glad things worked out. 1
