CA Whitecloud Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Oregon says, Hi! Long time builder, first build-in-progress post. I'm coming aboard from another forum, so I'm actually re-posting. I look forward to any and all feedback. I'm probably 60% along, but I will start from the start for my own sense of cohesion. So forgive the photo onslaught. But again, comment on anything for the "I may try that next time" file. I still have many things to try and I want to improve with each build (money and space considering). 2

CA Whitecloud Posted December 1, 2023 Author Posted December 1, 2023 I built the engine first. I know! Like in the instructions. 5
CA Whitecloud Posted December 1, 2023 Author Posted December 1, 2023 Chassis Pretty straight forward. Never had decals for the white walls. Blue shocks? I tried to break up the colors a bit. 2
CA Whitecloud Posted December 2, 2023 Author Posted December 2, 2023 Body Work I really wanted to follow all the tips I collected over time to produce a really nice build. I was pleased with my first attempt at body modifications. I chiseled off the wipers and scribed the window frame for future PE parts. 3
CA Whitecloud Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Interior I'm going more towards fine detail and craftsmanship rather the an original or realistic approach. There's a difference, right? BMF on center console WOW embossing powder for flooring. First time using that. Liquid Chrome pen (first use) on glove box, radio, seat backs and steering wheel. I used MM WOOD for the wheel. Wish it was darker. With I could do a cool wood grain effect. On the dash and gauges I wanted the "glass" effect. Tried clear super glue, Mod Podge (first try) and white glues. The dash was all one chrome piece, no decals. Added some black wash. 1
NOBLNG Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Looking good Calvin. I like that color on it!? Since you asked for feedback…I would only use panel liner on things that open, like the hood, doors and trunk. Other body seams are usually not as visible.
CA Whitecloud Posted December 13, 2023 Author Posted December 13, 2023 Are you referring to the runner line on the bottom? Now that you mention it, I see it. I was a little heavy on all the lines. Front end seems a bit high :(.
CA Whitecloud Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Clear coat woes. I went too thick to cover the bumps from the stripes. 1
Duddly01 Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 If your careful you should be able to sand out the clear coat and make it smooth.
Pierre_tec Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Welcome aboard, your paint job turn nice and that’s not common with rust oleum. I wouldn’t put any clear on top. And nice painted stripe also!
CA Whitecloud Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 Not giving up yet. I've taken it down with 1000 grit for the nasty stuff. Trying not to get down to the stripes or decals. I don't want to strip ot or buy another so I will do my best and finish the project. I still have other new things to try and plenty more ways to screw it up. Cheers.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 (edited) Test fitting interior tub. Check. Can't tell from pics but tub fits fine. I wish the carpet were blacker and the column gauges clearer. I went with a Gopher Racing pre wired distributor. First time using add on. Came out Ok. I was over cautious when trimming so the cables might be too long. Cal Edited January 15, 2024 by CA Whitecloud 1
Kah puts Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Realistically those carpets always faded anyway, the paint rubbed out fine, looks great. Home stretch ?

Dr Cobra Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I'd see how hard it is to pull one of the plug wires out of the head before I made that decision. There might be enough room to re-position the wires over the valve covers and hide the excess under the air cleaner. Any time I am doing something new, I Google pictures to see how it was from the factory.
KWT Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Looking good. I'd leave 'em this go round. You can chalk it up to how far you come and each build is a step further. 1

Could have looked for a better angle.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 That's better. Looks like a bad haircut. 2
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 Still deciding on whether to strip the chrome plating. The kit came with no clear lenses for the tail lights. Any suggestions on detailing these?
