GLMFAA1 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 For years the AMT American LaFrance pumper kit directions have shown the assembly of the hard suction couplings wrong. This what real hard suction hose ends look like. Hard suction hose is used to draft water from the source to the pumper. It is made of corded hard rubber like a car tire to prevent collapse. Here the correct way the hard suction coupling should look like: To add a little more detail here are some suggestions: When they are placed on the racks both ends are the same: Males on one end and female on the other. Since the female end is larger it is at the rear of the truck. greg 3 3

Jim B Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 You'd think that after 50 years, AMT would have fixed the drawing.

GLMFAA1 Posted January 2, 2024 Author Posted January 2, 2024 Forgot to even post the mistake on the box cover model built by Fred Reagan. He was told to build it as per the instructions. Also not to mention the rear view mirrors from the kit that when mounted the doors would not open. greg
4knflyin Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 What did you use to create the collages. I'm sick of attaching single photos in series that take up as much space as they can! Thanks.
OldNYJim Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Great tips Greg, thank you! I won one of these kits in the raffle at a show last year and I’ve been casually researching these trucks to learn a little about them. Great to have some of the flaws and fixes spelled out, thank you!

Using the drag file here I selected photos ( reduced to web size in windows picture management ) load them to article then click on pic to bring it into the body of topic. Do not insert space or return and the pics just follow each other in the order that it is highlighted. Hope that helps greg

You can click on each to view/enlarge them. That is how I upload photos too, but I do use the Enter key to keep mine in line and separate. This is easy when accessing the forum on a computer, but I suspect it is not that easy when accessing the forum on a smart phone or tablet (like many members do). Those devices are not really designed for this type of functionality. They are dumbed-down computers with touch screen.
GLMFAA1 Posted January 6, 2024 Author Posted January 6, 2024 Yes, I work off a lap top. I enjoy the large format to view everybody's builds. I leave my phone in the corner with the dunce cap on. greg
