I don't know but I can't wait se this run. Look at this overhead view of the Audi R15. I have never seen anything like it.

Sebring Scrutineering

We're having a Sebring-palooza, starting Friday night with the airing of "Truth in 24". I have no idea what I'll be working on. Perhaps preparing my 24 hours of LeMans model :)

Still rooting for Audi. GT2 will certainly be interesting.

I can not wait to see that R15, that is just wicked in that shot.

I also can't wait for the Truth In 24, i've been hearing about it all last week. I wish I lived near you :) Maybe you should try a 24 Hours of LeMons palooza, I would go to that B)

Oh Yeah, GT2 is going to be the most interesting class all year. Most cars most diversified field. I am sure the Pug will put on a good battle with the R15.

My money is on the Lizards. :)

Hope Mazda brings in the 1 2 in LMP2.

I kind of rooting for the Pugs over all.

Most of the rest of the year I really dont see Acura taking the fight to the R15.

The Aston looks good. How come I don't see it on the entry list?

24 Hours of LeMans, or 24 hours of LeMons? Big difference B) The latter sounds like a blast.

As for the former, been there, done that, got paint on the T-Shirt :P

24 hour builds are fun! I'd hate to be building 1/4 milers in less than 8 seconds

There's a group in Canada that also builds during the race. I wouldn't be surprised to see the W. VA guys try it; they have a 24 hour build in January.

I think it's going to be like some of you said. GT2 is going to be crazy! Bob, that site is my favorite, the way those guys think is the way I do :) I love the FAQ section, glad you like the site too. It would sure be a fun and interesting build, and we'd only have to spend so much ;)

now, that would be a blast!

Gentlemen. Start your dehydrators!!!!

ACURA IS ON THE POLE FOR SATURDAY!!

We'll see if they last.

Yeah, I watched the preview last night on Speed, very nice and informative, of course GT2 is exciting and Jaime Meol didn't make it there yet, stupid immigration laws  but the Acura has rear tires in the front? MASSIVE grip but yeah I wonder how long they'll last, it sounded good though, with Brabham seeming to be comfortable. He said that the turbo diesels get them in the straights but the corners they are hoping to shine.

I just like how diverse the field is, cars and drivers. ;) and my man, Allan Mcnish....Scotty! :D;)

It's been tried before but hasn't worked in the past by other teams. Furthermore, Sebring is a rough track on cars and the Acura's have been said to be a bit fragile compaired to the Audis and Peugoets.

I thought Mcnish was getting booted off Team Audi.

Like Cal said, the idea has been done before and failed miserably. All the stuff that Accura says is innovative has all been done, so it's not innovative.

There's too many downsides to having big wheels on the front of the car. First off, you're drivers are going to have to have huge Popeye arms to steer the thing. Also now you have to run larger brakes in the front which they are not allowed to do. Also you will lose a lot of straightaway speed. Last is that now you have such a large rotaional mass you have to get up to speed and be able to brake. And the only real advantage is you're getting traction in the corner. There's too many disadvantages that the outweigh the advantages.

If you've looked at the time sheets, both the Audis and the Peugeots were maintaining their speeds while the Accura had only one fast lap that got them the pole. I'm betting at the start of the race they'll be passed in the first lap. But I'm hoping they'll be able to keep up with both cars. Since they'll be the only factory P1 car racing all season long.

Last night on Speed TV.com it was posted that the Peugeot's had the fastest practice times in the session after qualifying. That is probably a truer indication of how the race will go. Barring the breakage. The Peugeot's are the "tested" car in the field. I do like the Acura idea of building and testing the car in the computer before a single part was fabricated.

I guess I'm not really pulling for anyone in particular in P1, I just want to see a competitive race. I am rooting for the Lizards in GT2 though.

They were also fastest in practice today. Acura was down in 3rd.

Yeah, that is what I was just thinking that the Pugs and Audis are going to run away with it in the first couple laps if not the first could corners.

For Acura, first time out on a track that is very hard on cars may DNF.

Not only everything you stated is correct the tire itself particularly in the sidewall has an effect on the suspension and the set up is drastically different front to rear so using a rear tire on the front just by design doesn't work that well.

They say that the P2 Mazda Lolas maybe the P1 Acura's main rival for the championship.

They also say that this is probably the last year for the Audi in P1. 2010 IIRC mandates closed cockpit and there is talk of a Porsche replacing the Audi in P1 in a year or two.

The other squeaky wheel is in GT2, and most everybody is saying the BMW M is not legal, but I guess hasn't gone any farther or probably will unless they stomp the competition.

GO LIZARDS

Posted (edited)

Yeah yeah go Lizards...rubbish! :P Let's hope it's another 2007 except with BMW and I wish the Corvette. Very interesting the Truth in 24 was..... ;) The new R15 I think looks a lot better than the R10 and it sounds cooler.

Well, what a great 2 hours so far, 1 full course caution only because one of the Acura's spun and one of the good competition in GT2 the Ford GT was involved and they went to the break which will get back in 2 hours. I think it's funny how they said, do your shopping and go everywhere you need to go and be back, of course, I think the rediculous break for the NASCAR qualifying and such. The R15 is just dominating but the Pug's are putting up a good fight. Of course GT1, boring but love those Compuware Vettes. The class is the best, GT2, man; Panoz, Viper, Ford, Ferrari Porsche, BMW, Corvette, Aston Martin, great field and those M Powered peast sound incredible and look the part.

They said that they wanted to slow these down a bit that way they can see how they run and not beat the rest right off the bat and maybe later increase the power, kind of a good idea. So far so great, wish I was there :P. I'm moving to Florida...... ;)

I can't wait for models to come out of these.

The Pugs have a new plan, we will see if it works. I think on new tire Mcnish wouldn't have got around so easy.

Pretty much why Audi is getting the plug pulled. People are getting tired of seeing it win.

And the Lizards sure took a beating.

Good job Risi.

Posted (edited)

OH HECK YEAH!!! What a great race. Audi, Peugeot, Audi, Peugeot. That just makes the whole reason why I love sports car racing bigger. I agree though, it does win everything but not too much competition and everything is over in Europe. Those Lizards sure did, Risi deserved this.

Audi's R15 really was strong and it was nice to see McNish, Kristensen, Capello take it to McNish deserved this and now Kristensen is Mr. Sebring and LeMans WOW 5 wins here. Orange juice! The Pug's 908's did great also, they were competitive and Bourdais did really well.

Shame that the Mazda cars retired becasue this is a huge blow on them now for points. The Lolas in P1 shame for them that they didn't do so well also. The Patron and De Ferran cars, man they are wicked, did well but this is what they needed for development.

GT1, yeah, we got Long Beach and LeMans and then GT2 reveal

The GT2 class my favorite. RISI and FERRARI WINS! To come from the back amazing and with Melo's trouble with coming here, 1 2 Ferrari!

The Ferrari team from the FIA GT did well too, it was nice to see them over here in their first 12 hour race. Poor Lizards got in trouble with a few guys out there, running in to people and running them into the walls :P it does kind of sticnk that they didn't do better. The BMW's OH MY GOD do they sound amazing, shame they retired but first race, really can't complain, can't wait to see them later on. Shame the Aston didn't finish, they weren't doing so bad. The Ford GT did very well, comparing to last year, really was competitive and that Esperante wow Ian James did great and Farnbacher, what a good run 3rd, it's nice to see a Panoz do well in the beginning race of the series he created and the 100th race. The field was awsome and such a variety, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Panoz, Corvette, Viper, BMW, Ford.

Such a great race, I wonder how many countries it is broadcasted in or if they know much about it? So many drivers and teams from different countries.

NOW THAT'S RACING!

Thank you Dr. Don Panoz, hope you do creat a P1 car. ;) The little clips of the last 100 races before the commercials was really cool. ;)

Ian James needs his face caved in.

Something must have happened to the Pug, it laid down a record breaking lap the last be for SB turned the car over. :P The pace fell off for some reason, maybe driving it in the dirt.

They are always fast, they just can't hang on til the end.

Seemed really wierd about the Mazdas. Almost like they knew they didn't have pace and pulled them out. There was no warning or mention of oil pressure going away and both cars at the same time. Strange. ;)

Lots of broken cars.

and it's really unlike BMW to have catastrophic engine failures like that.

Pretty good racing, not as good as the Rolex series, though.

From what I am hearing from here and there is Audi is done this year, and within a year or two Porsche will have a new p1 couple.

I am sure it wasn't as many as Le Mans, which was broadcast live in 64 coutries.

I am also sure the Lizards will come back the Ferrari guys say they can't keep up with the new RSR.
