ea0863 Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 (edited) Hello All. Not too long ago I bought a couple of Hawk Monte Carlo toy car kits. You can only really call them "toys" because they are only a rubber band powered car. Having said that, they had a very interesting Exner-like body shape, and I thought someday I might turn one of them into a proper build (the second one was kind of hacked up and purchased pretty much just for parts). Then, I ran across the beautiful build of this car by our member @Joe Lange, and I was hooked! I knew mine wouldn't come out as nice as his, but I loved his adaptation of the Moebius Chrysler 300 drivetrain and chassis to his project, and decided to give it a go the same way. His WIP on this mashup was a huge help, so thank you Joe! First up was the Hawk body which was shortened by removing 5mm cross sections ahead of the windshield and behind the rear window. My idea was to more closely approximate the proportions of Ghia bodied Chrysler concepts of the 50's and 60's, such as the one pictured below. I also went with similar colors and tire/rim choices. By shortening the Chrysler 300 chassis, dropping the roof line, recontouring the engine compartment, and borrowing interior parts for the Monte Carlo tub, I have what strikes me as a good representation of what a concept from that period would have looked like. Without further ado, here is my 1960' ish Chrysler Monte Carlo. I hope you enjoy: And because this car looks just as nice as a convertible, it was built as a removable hard top. Now I just need to decide what to do with a hacked up Hawk Monte Carlo and Moebius Chrysler 300 body... Edited April 14, 2024 by ea0863 17

'70 Grande Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 These are the kind of projects that really catch my attention! Beautiful execution. I bet there was a lot of work in determining how these components were all going to come together, and you did a phenomenal job making it happen!
Lobo2me Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 Very creative, imaginative, and well done! Looks like you could have driven this baby right out of Exner's studio.

Yes, it took at least as long to plan and measure as it did to build this model, although Joe Lange really gave me a leg up with his WIP. I wish my eyes and hands could execute as beautifully as his came out, but we each do what we can with what we have. Luckily, the model looks pretty good in real life, and the faults are not nearly as noticeable as they are in blown up photos on our forum . Edited April 14, 2024 by ea0863

Thank you much Steve. It turns out this was designed by Bill Campbell (of "Weird-Oh" fame) who had quite a few interesting designs he did for Hawk.

I think I'll start posting pics that are quarter scale, and maybe throw a little vaseline on the lens first 1
