Just finished one and already had to start on this one. I like Land Rover, so I don't mind. Plus is a commission work, and the time frame to build it could be tricky...
Revell Series III "Commercial"...

The kit is like the non commercial, pretty good base. This one has a diesel motor instead of a 6 cyl petrol.

Body looks nice!

It is the commercial version, two door and the back is like a truck.

This looks really cool. I still have not seen one of these kits "in the flesh".

I wonder if Revell Europe would sell me the parts tree with the dimpled hood?

I doubt they sell you only a the parts tree.

I used these fine trans kits to make mine into this:

Pretty cool, but for mine I don't need a transkit. Thanks!

Fabrizio, I know you do not really want to use a trans kit, but I think that C1 Models sells a dimpled hood as a separate item made specifically to fit the Revell kit. I take it that the dimple in the hood you refer to is a recess to take a spare wheel?

A bit of information for other Land Rover modellers, besides the normal Land Rover after market items, C1 makes 3 brilliant trans kits to make versions of the black Spectre Land Rovers.

The Revell Land Rover 109 "commercial" has already the hood for the spare tire.

The trans kit are cool, but would be nice if they offer or make contemporary engine for it. Like a TD5. I used one of C1 Models transkit (needed the back of the cab and roof) for make Fred Dibnah Land Rover. Pretty cool 3D parts, and the corner clear are very nice! Altough I had to cut and shortened the back of the cab, it was too wide.

That is a very nice model of Fred Dibnah's Land Rover Fabrizio.

Surprised to learn that a TD5 engine is not made in 1/24th scale by any after market supplier.

I watched a lot of Fred Dibnah's series on UK TV. He was well into running steam powered lorries, traction engines and road rollers  He was a real character with a very dry sense of humour. Sadly missed.

Maybe somebody make the TD5, I never look int too much. I mean I'n mot building a Defender... Maybe one day, I offroad raced Defender and Discovery years ago. This kit I'm building, the "commercial 109" has a turbo diesel engine. That should work for a 80's Defender. Not sure if the Series III had a turbo diesel though, for what I remember the 2.25 was non turbo. The did the 2.5 TD... I need to look into that, when I'm a that point.
I start to watch some documentary of Fred little over a year ago, by accident. Climbing a chimney witout any safety of some sort. Maybe smoking a cigarette. I got hook up, and start to watch all I can find about him. Very interesting person, with his simplicity he conquer everybody. Every time I spoke about Fred with somebody from UK, they put a big smile. His passion for steam povered machine made who he was. A man of another era that can capture with his personality.
Thank you Noel!

I think that one of two books were published about Fred Dibnah about the time his TV series was aired.

Not many like him any more !

I found few books about him, mostly about steam machines. I was thinking to get one, because I would like a somoe point to build a steam machine.
Agree, very inspiring person.

Chassis converted to a 88in wheel base. Cut it in 6 spot, and shortened little bit. Also assembled the front and rear axle. Next primer and paint.

Brizio, did you sign write the Fred Dibnah Land Rover?

When I enlarged the picture up really big, I could see some very slight variations in the lettering and its shading.

If so, what an incredible job you did on it.   Sign writing is very difficult to do, particularly in smaller scales, so credit where it is due.

Noel, yes I did hand paint teh shadow drop lettering. The yellow part I used a paint brush, the green shadow was made with a trimmed tooth pick. Same also for the tailgate. It toke little over 8 hours to paint the lettering. I used acrylic colors for the lettering, and I gave 5/6 passes on the yellow part, and 3 on the green part. The color need to be thinned quite a bit, so It will not do a bubble effect in a small scale car.
The same technique I used when I hand paint Janis Joplin Porsche.

I thought so Fabrizio.   Brilliant job !   Fred Dibnah would have been proud to see your model if he was still around.

Incidentally since our PM's some time ago about your Joplin Porsche, I had a go with the 1/16th scale Revell Porsche 356 Cabrio kit. I posted a couple of pics of mine in the thread about Favourite Paint Jobs. I can really appreciate your painting skills on that car as in 1/24th scale it was a lot smaller than the one I put my efforts into. And, plus the fact that you converted it to a cabrio from a Fujimi coupe kit!

Thank you! Fred is a legend, and it was nice to build his Land Rover. :)
I had the 1/16 Porsche thinking to build it, but after I gave to a friend. I prefer to stay in the 1/24 scale.
It is fun to do this kind of piant job/lettering, not that you want to do it every day, but once in a while... :) Eyes and neck appreciate! :D

Thanks! The kit is a classic Revell quality.
