Sabasaurusrex Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 This is a 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30, this kit is by Revell. I just graduated high school so I treated myself to this super neat kit I've been eyeing for a while. I decided to build it with a manual transmission because I've never driven one of those before. I enjoyed this car because I got to learn more about the insides and outs of how it was built and the changes that were made to it past its original release. This build was cool because it's the first model I've done that had an option for wheels that spin. I took a different approach to building this time by painting all the parts first and then assembling them. Still no airbrush but I'm fine with brush painting for now, I find it gives me more control. Overall, I'm happy to see my improvement in the fine details, but applying the decals without decal soft was very difficult (I have since invested in some decal soft lol). 7
espo Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Great looking Olds. Your build looks very cleanly put together and the part colors all look correct. Like how you have laid out the chassis and driveline parts. The paint finish looks nice and smooth and an even metallic finish. 1
shoopdog Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 You have done one heck of a good job with this build. Looks fantastic! I just finished the same kit and was going o post pics of it but I’m going to hold off. Again you have done a superb job. I brush paint all my individual parts too, just seems much easier. 1
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Good color choice. Looks great. A lot of us on here are brush painters. 1
Tim W. SoCal Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 GREAT job! It is bitchen' to see a person of your age interested in cars and our hobby!... Now, go out and learn how to drive a stick- shift manual transmission!... ??? 1
89AKurt Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Welcome to the forum! I kinda hate to admit it, but you did better than I was at your age. I never liked brush painting, if you can master that it will lessen frustration. Well done. It's a right of passage to learn to shift an old fashioned manual transmission. I'm driving my '68 Chevy pickup with 4-on-the-floor more than my Honda Civic with the CVT, just because it's getting new mechanical stuff. LOL Granny gear comes in handy in some cases. It's also a Millennial theft deterrent. ? 1
89AKurt Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 I just happened to watch this video, and there is something about learning to drive a clutch, hope this inspires you. 1
XYHARRY Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Very nice Olds there Sabeyah, your detail work is good. Well done. Cheers, David. ?? 1
