Technics Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hasegawa Lancia Stratos 1:24 + GP modeling 24V engine / rear frame transkit This is my first “new model” I aquired when thoughts started circulating about returning into the hobby.. right about 2020 (a year many introverts thrived ) At the time the incredible GP modeling transkit didn’t exist. I bought a Reji engine and detail up set which has now been far overshadowed by what the GP modeling kit offers. I do feel like I’m overstepping a bit into a complex project with modifying of kits with the entire rear frame and engine to be made to fit. Playing with the idea of having both clamshells hinged. The subject car is so exciting to me it might just be the thing that pulls me through to succeed or at least finish. And that’s something I’ve decided is the most important thing to do is to conclude projects. I have a few stratos which I will build but I am starting with the first which was bought chronologically. I like the thought of peppering in lighter projects such as road cars and curbsides when necessary to get the completion satisfaction buzz in parallel to more complex builds which I’ve done the past decade with my 1:10 builds. I had a moment for documentation of parts as I slowly descend into the journey of cutting, cleaning and fusing parts. Project direction is to make a blank slate white Lister Bell type group 4 build. I’m open to a vibrant a yellow colour or others as well.. The wonderful box art livery would be great too. It will be alot of obstacles to overcome before any paint will be applied. Let’s have some fun! Unboxed group b alien species 2
Pierre Rivard Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Great historical car and the trans kit looks formidable. Please post regular updates. This is definitely one to follow. 1
Bainford Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 Wow! That's a lot of cool bits. The detail looks very fine. I am very interested in your project. Looking forward to watching this one progress. 1
Technics Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 Some gems from the inspiration folder below. 2
Technics Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 I spent the better half of two evenings slowly scribing, cutting, etching away at the rear clamshell. I am used to 1:10 Lexan projects so this was a real challenge. I’ve built up a patience callous so I rather enjoyed the process but it took some time. I glued in the wide rear fenders after a few deep scribing passes of the plastic underneath. I am going to look into very fine dentistry tools for scribing. Old news to many probably but new to me, would’ve been nice to have more options to use as tools. I have a few scribbers and a practice of using a new blade for the beginning of any new project. PS I am on holiday hence the new project with both minimal tools and setup. The psycho casually reading a instruction manual for a Lancia Stratos in transit was me ? 1
Technics Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 I cleaned the rear frame of printing material supports. First mock up of the frame and body got me excited 2

Technics Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 More engine parts and rear subframe got fused together and made into sub assemblies. 3
Technics Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 I am surprised how well everything fits together. I have not worked with resin kits before. I have had many poor or vintage plastic kit experience however This feels like a new era of kits. 3
Funkychiken Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Are you glueing it all together without painting, or are these still test fitting? Looks daunting, great subject though, I'll be following and wish you luck! 1
Technics Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 @Funkychiken Small auxiliary parts that won´t interfere during final assembly I am gluing in, I prefer to work later with hand brushing. I will not glue in the motor or the suspension strut / hubs / brakes into the frame. they are a glued assembly however. I´ve reached a limit now though as the remaining parts are to be installed once a motor is fused into the frame so I will begin to primer. @absmiami The entire kit is a bit beyond my skill level where I would like to see it end up, realistically "running condition" weathered but I have to do it here and now. I absolutely love the subject car!
Pierre Rivard Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 The printed parts add so much details. It is a new world. 1
steveracer Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I am going to follow this build! Especially because it is my favorite car of ALL TIME. Now I want to build one of those replicars in my garage....wonder how much that would cost me. 1
Mattilacken Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Great work on a nicely engineered aftermarket kit! I saw two of these this summar, great small cars! I was surprised how small they are! 1
Technics Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 (edited) @Mattilacken Midnattsolrally? I am yet to see one in person but I “seen” them my entire life. So special and characteristic these are! Edited September 30, 2024 by Technics
Technics Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 I mocked up how I will do the exterior. I will have the headlamps down, lamp pod on, no roof scoop. I misted the rear frame in primer before I fuse it to the chassis as i come to an end to exterior colour choice as I decided I simply can´t see "another" Aitalia livery. Although I have never made one myself, I´ve seen it my lifetime decided it is not for me. 1

So special and characteristic these are! I am not sure, but they had been driving from UK to North cape and we’re passing here on their way back to UK. It was two stratos and one Delta Integrale. yes they for sure are cool looking cars and so purpose built for rally of the time! keep at it mate! 1
Technics Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 Fused the rear frame to chassis and shot two coats of primer black. I removed the molded in hood pins with some newly arrived sanding pads. 1
Technics Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) I preliminary decided on going with a yellow colour. More lemon then orange. I will test a yellow primer, Tamiya TS, and maybe airbrush a XF-3, Amarillo Soleado by Vallejo as I have all of them and I have ambitions of becoming airbrush proficient. I aim to ‘road weather‘ the finish so I may avoid any gloss coat obsessing as I’ve always done. Edited October 4, 2024 by Technics 1
Technics Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 All four tested. I like the bottom two best. Maybe my transition into airbrush will be sooner then later.
Technics Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 (edited) I mocked up the complete frame to body again and taped in the fuel tanks. The dual side fuel caps protrude the body nicely. I just love the overall look and fit. Once they’re painted and permanently glued I will increase the hole slightly to always get clearance when closed. Edited October 5, 2024 by Technics 1
MarkJ Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 It's exhausting just thinking about the work necessary to build one of these kits. You are doing a fabulous job though and I am watching with great anticipation for each new post. I love the way you mix the scale photos with the 1:1 and make scale appear to be 1:1. Well I think you're doing that. Is that you leaning on a real car or the model? I really can't tell. Maybe it's not even you. Again, Awesome work going on here. 1 1
Pierre Rivard Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I love Bertone designs and the Stratos is the ultimate expression of this style. Such a beautiful car in comparison to today's HUGE mid engine supercars. Fantastic choice you are making to go with yellow on this one. Will this be a racing or road car... or something of a mix? 2
Technics Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 @MarkJ Thank you. That’s funny I never thought of the way you described it. No it’s no photo tricks and no it’s not me either! It was just found inspiration references I’m aiming for or inspired by for now. I wish I was that clever! Thanks for the encouragement! @Pierre Rivard I am going for a mix of Both. It will be a single colour race car. Like modern day Lister Bell replica builds. Some days I wake up thinking about the Aitalia and other liveries to help aid my lack of final top coat skills but for now the citrus plan I’m sticking to! Thanks for the encouragement!
